How are live 'phone-in' voting shows handled (eg BB Evictions)? I've heard that the standard feed shows the 'voting now closed' caption and this is 'over-laid' on the original transmission - but not sure how accurate that info is.

All "interactive" programming on Channel 4 carries an disclaimer, "not available on Channel 4+1" which is the end of the matter as far as they're concerned. It works well, it would appear. Ordinarily a direct copy of the original transmission, including any major technical issues when programmes fail to turn up.

Other channels have other matters, including lower third overlays (see ITV2+1 on occasion during Britain's Got More Talent final night for example), single banner (see Five USA+1 when airing Jewellery Channel in the morning) or pulling the stream altogether (see Horror Channel+1 during "Phone a Psychic"). Many of the cheaper channels run off automated play-out systems which handle the timeshifts on their own - Disney and their sister channels (including ABC1 at the time) apparently fed the best part of about 8 channels off one system.

You can usually tell a lot about the way a company runs their TV setup and timeshift channels by watching what happens when the power goes out...

As they are one hour behind the main channel and not an hour ahead, +1 channels should be called -1 channels.

But the timing of the actual programme is an hour +1 - I.e. a programme on Channel 4 at 9pm is 10pm on C4+1. That's where it comes from.

Now it makes sense.

Indeed, most "interactive TV" goes out with a text warning "not available on +1", whereas "participation TV" generally is taken off altogether and normally replaced with a slide.
