In regards to the question "What's the Point" it's simply for people who have missed the programme on 1hr or 2hr before, or they missed a bit or they want to see it again.

+1-ing the five terrestrials is a bit stupid as EPG numbers would be very confusing and silly.

An interactive service would be helpful though, a bit like Sky Movies Multistart.

I think having +1 terrestrials would be of more use than the current +1 channels.

Most of them repeat their programmes every day anyway, whereas being able to watch Coronation Street at 8.30pm or Paul O'Grady at 6pm would be useful.

There would be logistical problems for BBC1 and ITV1, but its something I could see Five doing.

I find E4+1 very useful. It enabled me to watch the Christmas Lecture yesterday. Then switch to E4+1 for 'Hollyoaks'' Monday episode. Very Happy

Aren't +1 channels cheap as chips to run anyway?

After all, all you're doing is basically recording yourself and rebroadcasting that output on a different feed with a +1 DOG.

Most be some commercial value in it which would explain why most channels jumped on the idea pretty much at the same time.

That's exactly it as all they do is see advertising as they would do anyway but with a schedule that's already produced and just put out an hour later. Minimum investment and a very good return. I'm only surprised that more stations haven't been issuing them at a rate so great we'd have +5 stations by now.

Well when the Sky EPG reorganisation is done and dusted later this year to free up and rearrange channels and channel numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if +x channels do crop up.

But I would have thought that one of the reasons why they only do +1 channels as opposed to +5 channels is because of the watershed. That is to say, if somebody with a +5 channel broadcasts a "strong" piece of adult programming at 4am (forgetting the timeshift channel), then that's going to go out again at 9am which'll get them in big trouble. Whereas with a +1 channel, the latest that 4am programme will go out is 5am.

Didn't ITV1 toot plans for a timeshift channel at some point? Or was it abandoned in the rush to shut down Nottingham and get rid of the news channel?
