Steve, short notice would explain last night but not tonight. Maybe she's just had other plans? I'm looking forward to tomorrow lunch time. Peter said tonight he'd see us 6:30 tomorrow, and Thursday lunch and mid afternoon is usually Helen F, so lets see if she's back or if someone's covering for her?
Intrigued as to why Helen P couldn't cover it if she's on lates - Ian White regularly does the 3.30, covers the 6.30 and does the late, although if it was short notice that may explain it
I have now been told that some very big changes are afoot at Look North in Hull, due to falling ratings and tightened budgets. Watch this space.
Losing a presenter for one night (Tuesday) can be explained away, but tonight
must
have been a pre planned decision.
If Helen presented yesterday at 3.30 and said "see you at 6.30" the decision to axe her must have been sudden (if that is what has happened). Would this have been done just to save money?.

There are a lot of changes afoot throughout the whole of the BBC, not only in this region. None of those changes involve terminating a member of BBC staff with only a couple of hours notice. It's illigal, so would cause too much paperwork.

Pre planned, yes. Tuesday they were forced into it so as it worked and they are short of newsreaders at the moment they let Peter go alone again tonight. After all, it's a good chance for them to test out the single presenter format that's been rumored for ages now. But I think we'll see the two person format for at least a few more weeks yet, when everyone's back from whence they have travelled.
My sources have gone very quiet on me, but what people DON'T say can be revealing. Work will have me near the BBC later so I'll see what I can see. It's amazing what you can accidentally over hear in that place!
