Well, indeed, and having grown up with the likes of Tony Wilson, Bob Greaves and (a bad name to drop now, I know) Stuart Hall, I don't see what the problem is with having a lively personality presenting the regional news - and of course they're billed as regional news magazines, they were never intended to be a straight half hour bulletin.
I live in London now and, in normal circumstances, there's almost always an entertainment story on BBC London, often a report from a film premiere interviewing big American stars. And BBC London's patch generates a bit more news to fill the programme than Look Hull.
On the rare occasions I've watched Look Levy, I can see why they use him as a personality who brings the unnatural editorial area together. If you can't get viewers to relate to news stories from Skeggy and Spalding to viewers in Hull, then at least have a personality presenter that they all enjoy.
