That’s just a telly convention though, isn’t it? A bit like a newsreader changing their intonation slightly when “quoting someone”.
I genuinely wasn't sure, which is why I didn't put something like 'How stupid!' at the end of my post. Just never consciously noticed it before I watched that clip again. I'll be on the look out for it now!
I've just noticed he picks up a piece of paper like he's going to read the statement off it, but ends up reading from the autocue anyway.
I noticed that, he could have pretended to read it from the paper, like when Huw reads a quote
Regarding the announcement, even Paul’s attempt at a joke didn’t seem to work.
As others have said, I expect most viewers won’t be that bothered, especially as, like many Sport Relief and Children in Need events seem to be, it was a near repeat of what they’d done two years ago.
That clip really is hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
I don't particularly know what the sofa challenge was meant to be but it does sound more of a 'jolly' than a hard-hitting news piece. Which jars with the incredibly sombre reaction '. I'm sure if people are going to donate to Sport Relief they'll likely do so regardless.
Still I look forward to us all being the first to know of any updates on 'sofa challenge'. And given the way they've hyped it up there, I'm expecting quite the spectacle when the 'sofa challenge' happens.
even Paul’s attempt at a joke didn’t seem to work.
Probably why he decided to cut the weather forecast short.
Quite why he'd think viewers would want a weather forecast of all things, while they come to terms with the fact the iconic sofa challenge has been postponed, goodness knows.
The other problem with that vague statement is that it's open to misinterpretation. A number of people replied to Look North's tweet asking if Keeley is ok.
I've got to say that the statement is ringing alarm bells in my head. My theory is that there is something with legal or emotional consequences. It was the part of the statement that says that they couldn't elaborate further that made me wonder that there is a issue or even a tragedy linked to it.

Where in the statement does it say they can’t elaborate further?

My apologies. Harry said it was something they couldn't discuss further after he had looked up from the statement.
It makes sense for the Corporation not to encourage 'unnecessary' 'official' contact with the general population currently, moreso with it's news and current affairs 'talent'. Linking the announcement with Coronavirus on air might in retrospect have been appropriate.
If there was an alternative reason for this, surely we'd have heard in the time that's elapsed since the on air message.
