Looks like Look North’s (Yorkshire) sofa challenge has been cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. A real reason wasn’t given and the presenters didn’t look happy at the end of tonight’s program. I wonder what the actual explanation is...?

The way they read a statement rather than just announcing it themselves sounds to me that the decision was made by BBC bosses who over ruled the programme and they didn’t agree with it.

The way Harry read the statement was so ridiculously grave, you need to watch it on the iPlayer. It was as if someone had died.

Extremely odd. Harry stating a statement from the BBC. They are the BBC! Surely some transparency would be nice?!

BBC News aren't above standing outside the entrance to NBH, reading out a statement from the BBC and then going on to say that nobody from the BBC was available to discuss the statement.

They've even stood outside NBH to say that nobody from BBC News was available

Preserved for posterity. I love how solemn they all look at the very end

It’s a regional magazine programme that people trust. I honestly think they should be giving a proper reason behind the decision.

Must have been a very late call - Paul was talking about it on Radio Leeds at about 5.20 today.

Most people can read into the reasoning. All BBC regions have contingency plans in place and the fast changing nature of the virus mean things change quickly. If one of the staff members did have a positive test, that could wipe out the newsroom when they're all instructed to isolate and then who would deliver updates - it's not as if they can work from home easily.

At a time when the BBC can really justify its worth in providing local information to a concerned public, they need to take that into account on staffing decisions.

(Also worth pointing out March is the last month of the BBC leave year, so quite a few staff would be already on leave using up holidays)

'So far' and yet so near. Sounds like he needed a good sit down after that news.

Well, tell your audience that then.

If you close your eyes, it almost feels like a scene from This Time, with Alan Partridge, Jenny, and Sidekick Simon

It's not just that, but also if this does turn into a bigger thing then having lots resources working on a charity event is taking then away from covering it. Plus the event itself might help spread the virus

It's the right call but taken way too late, presumably with no time to put a spin on it other than the official statement in and amongst getting a programme on air.
