On the Calendar lunchtime weather today Jon Mitchell was telling what a rainy day we're having, despite it being a glorious day here in South Yorkshire. Then I noticed they were playing yesterday's lunchtime forecast! Christine didn't notice as she didn't mention anything after.

I wonder whether newsreaders pay any attention to what's being played-out during the weather slot? Maybe even if they accidentally played a 60-second (or whatever) snippet of porn where the weather should be, the newsreader still wouldn't notice?! Laughing

It's quite possible she did notice, but figured pointing out the cock-up to those who hadn't spotted it would only serve to make them look even worse.

It's not like they accidentally defamed someone and had to put out a legal clarification. The worst possible consequence of this is Doris in Dronfield might end up not needing the polythene rain bonnet she went out in after all.

There's a world of difference between playing the wrong forecast by the right person and something totally different.

Some problems with heavily distorted sound on Calendar West/North on this evening’s bulletin which meant we were treated to this caption...
*

Mid-bulletin, whilst the presenter was in view, the feed was switched to the East/South opt meaning a jump in picture and the background suddenly changing to the Humber Bridge view.

The presenter apologised at the end for sound problems ‘for some of our viewers’.

Indeed, it was as if Norman Collier was presenting.

At least someone is monitoring the recording, as the gallery would presumably be mainly occupied producing the live programme

Surprised it was East/South edition live. Assumed it would always be the recorded one.

Someone on twitter recorded part of tonight’s programme

Of course there isn't one sub-region that's always live and one that's always pre-recorded!

There will be a system of trying to give each sub-region its fair share of live/recorded editions (roughly 50:50 across a year, presumably?). Partly dictated to by news events (e.g. if something that is more of a "developing story" is happening in one particular sub-region, they get priority to be live that day).

I don't know about Calendar, but here in the West Country you can tell whether your half of the patch is getting the live/recorded edition by the presence/absence of the word "LIVE" on the location bug during OBs.

Someone (who was connected with ITV regional news studios ) told me that both sub-regions are pre-recorded, so if either playout goes down, the presenters can jump in and take over live ?

One will always be live and the other pre-recorded. Both half hours would never be pre-recorded
