More behind the scenes stuff on tonight's Calendar. Flat pack furniture has started to arrive, it hasn't taken shape yet though!
There was loads of people tossing behind Duncan in the newsroom tonight. At one time they would have gone into the Tonight Kitchen to do a feature but instead Gaynor was in a kitchen on the OB.
It'd be good if other Calendar presenters were seen in the background in the newsroom, after the round-up Faye could walk past behind
Just had the following nugget of viewing figure information from a couple of Look North contacts....
Quote:
I think Calendar must be praying that their new set can improve their viewing figures. After a brief increase around the time of Paul O Grady show, they have slumped to an
all time low
…
Last nights were
LOOK NORTH 660,000
CALENDAR 315,000
It is incredible that Look North is now getting
double
the audience of Calendar
Not quite double, but almost, figures were:
Look North 664,760
Calendar 365,850
Whats the thing behind the name Calendar? I dont understand
The Calendar name has been going since 1968, when Yorkshire Television started, but you can hardly call it Yorkshire News, as it serves more than Yorkshire. But then again, if ain't broke why fix it? It has been like that for 37 years, it has a long history associated with people such as Richard Whiteley.
Also remember other ITV stations in the 1950s and the 1960s had rather out of date names, Granada had 'Scene at 6.30' in the 50's and 60's, in the early 70's it was 'Six O One'. Border also has the same thing, as the 'Lookaround' name has been there for God knows how long, so why bother changing it really?
Though I agree, why Calendar? It has nothing to do with Yorkshire really.

Thanks for that, Interesting. Its a wonder its never been changed, as most news programmes has had a change of name.
Yeh, I'm sure deep down they'd really like to call it ITV Yorkshire News or something, but I imagine there would be uproar from the substantial Lincolnshire / Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire contingent.

Calendar is fine thank you very much.
Oh, and when did I mention about I wanted the name to change? All I asked is a wonder it has never been changes and what was behind it.

If they cared enough about the non-Yorkshire parts of the region (e.g. Lincs etc) so as to not have a Yorkshire-biased
news title
, why was it always okay for the
channel
(or
station
or whatever) to have a Yorkshire-biased name?
It has always struck me as infuriatingly inconsistent!
