Christine presented from the newsroom tonight with Duncan out on location.

They made reference to the new set being built and showed the progress so far and said we'd go back during the week. I think it's fair to say we know what's coming.

Here are some dodgy captures (sorry about the quality but you get the idea) :

I'd have said more like the Midlands Today in the Pebble Mill conservatory - the temporary home is better than the permanent one.

Yes I agree, can't Calendar keep this setup or at least for short news bulletins? Great to see the Calendar/YTV Newsroom. I am surprised that ITV doesn't get all regional news to present from the Newsroom to cost cut even more!!?

Well, the only chevron was the one on Chris Kiddey's Jacket!

They should use the newsroom for short bulletins, it would be better than those awful yellow backdrops used in the bulletin broomcupboards. Let's hope they change these as well.

I still think a full programme looks best in a studio though.

They ought to do the short bulletins from the studio they used to have looking down on the newsroom, wonder what happened to that.

So it's green to grey for the Calendar newsroom. For those of us long around enough to remember, it brings back memories of Richard, Geoff and the dreaded Christa.

If you remember when Tonight was launched in 1995 and Mike Morris arrived, Crusty and Nick Powell presented the programme for some weeks from the newsroom floor (instead of the podium) and it wasn't that bad. I still have the tape somewhere.

Just out of curiosity, when Nick Powell departed for lands in the sky, was he made to shave off his beard or was it choice?

Indeed and your part of the Calendar region should have the typical Humber bridge in the background.

Infact if you compare with your capture from today you can see as well as the chevron they've covered up the Calendar logo with some ITV squares. No doubt the bulbs were built into the wall so something had to go there.
Recently there's been some colour bars on one wall, I wonder if that's gone.
The Calendar newsroom (or YTV News Centre as Richard Whiteley used to refer to it) is one of those newsrooms that always looks good on TV, what with it being built with TV in mind, not just a camera stuck in the corner

And speaking of the dreaded Christa Ackroyd, I think she might be presenting Emley lunchtimes with Paul Hudson all this week - part of the Clare Frisby Stand-in Crew! So far, it's been Tom Ingall and Charlotte Leeming.

Perhaps Harry Gration or Ian White next week?

Just had the following nugget of viewing figure information from a couple of Look North contacts....

Quote:
I think Calendar must be praying that their new set can improve their viewing figures. After a brief increase around the time of Paul O Grady show, they have slumped to an all time low

Last nights were

LOOK NORTH 660,000
CALENDAR 315,000

It is incredible that Look North is now getting double the audience of Calendar
