Arkansas ? Cool

But seriously, is it that much of a slow news day in Yorkshire, they need to spin up a national story into a local one ?

2000 jobs at risk at Asda’s head office in Leeds, sounds like a fairly big local story to me

Potential for job losses at Asda’s Head office seems a viable reason for it. I assume that a story of that nature wouldn’t normally justify putting Harry on an OB, but I suppose that they probably don’t want to be featuring the temporary set too much.

The Sainsbury's CEO did say the head office in Leeds would stay on the NC earlier.

He did but it’s all a bit vague at the moment and it’s obvious there will be synergies when the dust settles, particularly if cuts need to be made later on, so it’s still a big news story.

I did wonder if an OB was always planned to be somewhere as the temporary set is a bit small, especially on a Monday when they have a sports presenter as well. They will of course have loads of Tour de Yorkshire OBs planned as well I expect, and next Monday is bank holiday.

He said no stores would close either and that seems just as unlikely. You don't merge companies and then keep the same costs

As for a live like that, why not if there's no other story that would more justify a live. It doesn't cost any more to do one and in this case woodman have cost a lot in transport for Harry and team to get to Asda HQ

It's possible that they will keep more than one head office, but as you say it's unlikely that duplicate functions will remain for the foreseeable – why would you need two payroll departments? To bring it back to TV, it's like the BBC having multiple offices but little overlap in function: children's is in the North, for example. With these kinds of merger there's always a fuss made that jobs will remain. Give it a year or two and the picture will have changed, or so they will say.

Harry and Amy double-heading in the temporary set this evening. I’m actually quite impressed with how it looks. Infinitely better than the awful effort in the boardroom when the last set was built.

Are they actually in the newsroom? It looks like the first floor overlooking reception, although I can’t quite remember the layout from when I was last there.

Either way, It certainly makes a change to have a set with a bit of depth.

To be fair to BBC South Today, they've not gone overboard with the Salisbury business. In fact on some days, despite it being featured on the national news, ST have not really mentioned anything about it.

Dunno whether BBC Pints West have stretched that elastic boundary to include Salisbury on slow news days ?

Well... there is genuinely a "good pub guide" sort of magazine in the Brizzle / West of England area called Pints West, but I think you'll find that the regional news programme is actually BBC Pants Worst.

Generally, certain E-SE parts of Wiltshire (e.g. Marlborough to Salisbury) don't seem to be regarded as part of the BBC/ITV Bristol editorial regions. Except Stonehenge when it's solstice/equinox time.

But, funnily enough, now that something very big has happened in Wiltshire's only city, Points West and ITV West Country have been falling over themselves to treat it as part of our patch for as long as this story rolls.

Rolling Eyes

Selective editorial boundaries dependant on availability of major stories does irk me a little.
