Nothing political - it's simply because of the transmitter path.
It's Yorkshire's regional news has always been known as Calendar - it's a brand that's remained.
The original ITV licences were devised around the location of transmitters.
If there was no Pennines it would have been one coast to coast patch controlled from Granada - the original licence holder.
Calendar region is probably the best shorthand way of referring to their patch now that YTV region is awkward politically.

Well there was a documentary called just that!
Granadaland?!
Perhaps amongst viewers, surely never on air?

I was meaning ITV internal politics. The phrase "Yorkshire Television region" or "YTV region" is subtly different to "Yorkshire", so doesn't alienate the good people of Lincolnshire. But mentioning YTV seems to be taboo, so "Calendar region" is a good enough substitute.
When YTV launched it didn't have the Belmont transmitter so this wasn't so big a problem.

That's right, since 1968.
Reading the Wiki entry, it claims Anglia continued to provide the weather for Calendar's eastern opt until the early 80s.

Has Calendar been around as a brand since the launch of Yorkshire TV?

A one-off deservedly fond look back at Granada. I've still not heard it mentioned in ITV circles but I respect your opinion.

Emma Jesson occasionally refers to 'Granadaland' in her weather forecasts.

Adverts for Ford cars shown on ITV (circa late 80s/early 90s, I think) would often have a regionalised ending, including dealerships in the region listed on screen.
For example a "...from your Central England Ford dealer" voiceover was used in the Central region's version.
In the northwest, it was "...from your Granadaland Ford dealer"! I'm sure that such adverts ended with an animation (in the typical "3D metallic" look of seemingly all early CGI) showing the shape of the Granada region morphing into a Ford logo. Or something like that.

And the version seen by YTV viewers referred to "Shire Ford Dealers".

It wasn't an ad for the Ford Granada then ? !!
