Des and Mel on ITV were going through the ITV duty log (as a follow up to a piece about the Jerry Springer controversy), and mentioned a complaint from a viewer (who wasn't named) that he was getting Tyne Tees rather than Yorkshire and was missing Calendar.

So they showed a clip for him of Duncan linking to a Chris Kiddey package about the gents bog at a pub which has a nice view of Ribblehead viaduct. Nice, albeit cropped to 16:9

Yeah I saw that just for Mel and the rest of my family to say how sad! How can it be sad for someone to want to see their regional news? It sounds a reasonable request! Rolling Eyes

yeah, not sure how he was getting Tyne Tees in the middle of Leeds... had it been the middle of York then yeah, but that's a whole other argument.

Can only think it's a postcode database cock up on sky, or a particularly incompetent/creative aerial fitter

The item didn't even seem particularly funny so I don't know what they aiming at.

Cockup at the end of Look North Saturday, they finished the bulletin and opted back in 30 seconds early, meaning we saw the end of BBC London News

Hull Look North wasn't much better - their top story was from Scarborough! That will go down well in Lincolnshire.

The story in Scarborough was about the suspicious death of a man and his wife....but I am sure it is a nice place most of the time.

i'm currently working on a college project analysing a weeks worth of regional news, in my case bbc look north (leeds) and calendar. can anyone tell me (impartially!) the main differences in the way the two deliver hard news and soft items, what each programmes target audiences are and the differences in style and presentation? i'm getting desparate!!! thanx Smile

*TIP* watch calendar and look north, with a pen in hand and notice the differences for yourself.

it really isn’t rocket science.

One big difference which may not be obvious from watching are the differing transmission areas they serve and therefore the depth of news coverages across the region they can provide.

Calendar serves the equivelent of 2 BBC regions but has news opt outs during the broadcasts.

I see BBC Radio Kent are now using some very familar jingles.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/radiokent/
No singing on their's though, as it would be impossible to sing BBC Radio Kent to the tune of BBC Radio Leeds. They also don't feature Trish Bertram doing the voice.
Have they popped up anywhere else in the country?
