There are a few pics on Twitter. I would imagine it would launch after the bank holiday.

Can you give us a link to the pics please?

Looks as though we might be getting the same dreadful black panels as Wales.

I wonder what background they'll have? I guess they could still use the Leeds and Sheffield ones they've recently used

It would have been a lot better if they turned three 103" plasmas on their side... I know it would probably cost more, but these sets do last a long time... Very Happy

Sorry to be a pain, but does anyone know if TT&B will get a new set any time soon?

Calendar often put images relating to the story on the background, I can't help but thinking that would look quite odd with those narrow plasmas.

I can't believe this set design has been signed off nationally.

Neither can I, I just don't understand the black bars. They could have done so many different options that would look better.

Also, with the view essentially being 5 16x9 screens in a row, it's a ridicoulously wide angle for a view, and must be a right pain to film their skyline backdrops with these new sets.

I think I would have preferred to see them build a new set around the current nice projection screens they use. At least they give a nice large view.

I don't see why they've been soo tight on controlling the design.

An infinite number to be precise, which means there must be constraints.

That said, there are also a large number of options that would look far worse - such as sticking three screens on their sides in the background.

I suspect a key reason for going with the black glass areas is to stop it looking like a re-coloured version of the BBC Birmingham set.

Not really. 4K camera + wide angle lens would do it pretty easily.

And do the projectors have another 5+ years left in them? Would that reflect the national branding?

Because a set is part of your brand. By making them all look the same they have a nationwide uniform look, plus can take advantage of benefits of scale when ordering the components that make up the set. Going down the bespoke-for-every-region route would be more expensive, take longer and would probably end up being poorer quality.

I suspect the Wales build was a prototype, and we'll see a fairly quick roll out of this set to the other regions now. Strangely, ITV will probably have already thought of all your issues with the design, and either decided it's good enough (the black bars), or it's not actually a problem (how can we fill 5 screens with pictures? :O ), they don't need you to come up with reasons why they shouldn't have made the choices they have.

In my opinion the only issue is that it looks too much like the BBC local news sets, although maybe they're hedging their bets on a BBC regional set replacement coming along soon.

Well, let me put it this way, the national branding isn't made up of 5 LCD a screens, the current projection screens would much better match the national set, with a white bare top and bottom.

With the wide angle filming, I wasn't meaning what cameras they were using, but getting the landscape looking nice with that wide a angle.

And to keep everything consistent, which many viewers won't notice, yet be bothered about, we will roll out a design with ugly black bars.

Would the projections screens last another five years, well they've lasted ten, and probably have been replaced within that time anyway, so perhaps not.

...and three 103 plasmas on their side? Well they'd create the window look they're going for...

Don't argue for the sake of it mate.
