One thing I find annoying lately is that on Calendar they never put a name caption up ever for any presenter. This means viewers could watch a bulletin from the start to the end say at weekends or during Christmas week and not have a clue who presented it. I find this a bit rude. Strange when you consider all the random weather presenters always get name checked.

Meanwhile Look North always put up a name caption, even if it's someone everyone knows like Harry Gration.

Maybe they listened to you as tonight Christine had a name tag - first time in a long time I have seen that on YTV!

I see Look North (Leeds) has some updated titles with a night-time version for the new, extended late programme. They actually don't look too bad - not like Hull's cheapo effort, although annoyingly from a branding point of view, the place names are all in Helvetica rather than Gill.

Just properly seen them, I don't mind them using Helvetica. However it's not all great; two BBC logos onscreen, of which not the same.

A bit of a closer look...

How the hell did they end up with extra spacing being added between the BBC logo's blocks? Someone must have actually done that manually. What would posess someone to do that?

It also looks like the BBC logo and Look North text has been slightly squashed horizontally.

Why?!?

Yup, the whole thing has been horizontally squashed to 92%, and then the blocks spaced back out to their normal spacing.

As for why, who knows! There's plenty enough space for the unstretched version to appear.

To be honest, I hadn't even noticed that on the blocks. In my opinion, I think that Look North Yorkshire's titles are the best out of the country, i prefer the darker grey for titles rather than London's black and some regions light grey.

Look North tweeted the running order tonight, quite technical, not sure I can work out what much of it is saying. I wish I'd watched tonight so I could have followed it.

Loved to know what all that meant.

A few educated guesses:

First column - item number/page on script

Second column - Story name

Third Column:

A and H = Amy and Harry
vsat live top/tail - introduction and out to a recorded report, live from a VSAT OB unit
oov = out of vision (eg a voiceover)
Banno = back announce?
ACT = Actuality - recorded interviews or similar clips dropped in rather than being part of a package
Other initials are reporters = JAH = Janghir Ahmed, CKI = Cathy Killick, TIN = Tom Ingall

Fourth Column:

Possibly which of three sources " VT" is coming from?

Fifth Column:

OS = Outside Source
ME2 Thirsk = ME is an effects bank on the vision mixer, suspect is for a location aston for Thirsk
2(2s) = Camera 2, 2 shot
3(2s+BP) = Camera 3, 2 shot with the back projection screen in shot
mcu = Medium Close up
mcu gst = medium close up of the guest
gvs = general views, footage played under a live voice
ws = wide shot

Paul couldn't be arsed to do the forecast properly tonight, talking in front of a static snowball instead of the usual graphics.

Couldn't be arsed, or wasn't able to?
