Hmm, they're an odd one - they're clearly trying to look like the North West Tonight ones, but look like a recreation rather than the original, and all the text, like with the refreshed Look East titles, is not in Gill Sans.

Staggered that (presumably) someone actually signed-off on that - I know budgets are tight but the loss of any sort of technical quality threshold for these things nowadays is startling. Inconsistent logo fonts are one thing, but the positioning of the Look North text isn't even consistent from the titles endboard to the same graphic on the screen in the studio - it's noticeably closer to the BBC blocks on the screen. The fact that 95% of your viewers won't notice isn't an excuse - it's poor, scruffy work and isn't something that should become the norm on prime time BBC One. Just my humble opinion though.

They don't get any better with repeat viewing do they? They're not awful but they're far from great - if you haven't seen them yet here are a few screenshots:
They look a bit better as stills but when animating they just look poor - everything is in the wrong font, the sphere is just gradients and 2D, as opposed to having the nice textured, glossy sphere NWT use in 3D, the place names are too bold and clear. little details like the blocks of text seen in the NWT sphere that scroll are missing and it generally looks a lot cheaper. Let's just compare a shot from the North West Tonight titles with the Look North mock:
The NWT titles are clearly available in template form as the images have been previously changed - I believe the designer is James Mobbs, responsible for the new Newsround branding and various other BBC things, so it's a mystery as to why they couldn't just ask him to change the footage, name and placenames!
