They often stick out like a sore thumb as well because they're filmed differently.

Well that is a fantastic argument against them.

Wasn't supposed to be an argument, just pointing out an annoyance of them.

BBC South (and I suspect other regions) often use the same trick, to promote stories on that night's Inside Out, it is bone idle journalism.

In fairness network do the same thing with Panorama from time to time.

Indeed they do, but that certainly doesn't make it alright !! Seems to be a disease sweeping through the BBC at present.

What is the problem with BBC news showing BBC news reports??

Nothing, but they are not news, they are topical features that have been complied days or even weeks before hand. They are cynically used to 'pad out' what are supposedly news programmes, because it's cheap and easy to do so. You might argue that's OK on regional TV on a slow news day, but there is no excuse on network TV news, which as it is carries a fraction of the news stores that are available. If you don't believe me, take a look at a broadsheet newspaper, or even the BBC website, full of stuff that never gets a mention on TV.

Panorama tonight has a report on how some Comic Relief funds have been invested in alcohol, arms and tobacco firms while waiting to be doled out to charities. The programme is on reporting its finding this evening and has appeared on the BBC News website (and doubtless on the News Channel - haven't actually caught any today). While this is a promotion of a sort for tonight's programme, it's also setting the agenda for discussion today - and this is 'news'. Finalising a current affairs programme legally and editorially and then reporting the key findings of that programme as news is perfectly legitimate IMO.

I don't think it's a problem featuring a cut-down report from another programme, providing it's current and newsworthy. Someone breaking their leg after tripping over a Yorkshire Dale several months ago isn't really news.

Yes, although it appears not to be news worthy enough to be mentioned prominently (or at all ?) on either the Sky or ITV News websites, although the Telegraph mentions it. Are Sky and ITV ignoring it because it's a 'BBC disclosure', or are the BBC deliberating promoting the story, to boost Panorama's audience ?

Sky and ITV could be avoiding it for the moment because they don't want to give any prominance to Panorama? It'll be interesting to see if it makes it onto their websites and/or "News at Ten"s ...!

Yes, that's very likely, but should they adjust their agendas to avoid giving the opposition a plug ?
It brings up the question of broadcasters (who are supposed to be impartial and objective), 'skewing'
the content to manipulate viewing figures ?

To be fair, some might say the Beeb shot themselves in the foot over the Saville affair, by overdoing the
navel gazing, of course that was an ITV disclosure, so there's a counter argument.

Or the fact that it's not exactly news - the Sunday People broke this one in August

ITV and Sky would look very stupid if a programme they've reported on, but haven't seen, turns out to be a load of old codswallop.

I assume the BBC issued a press release with the findings of the programme ?

A synopsis might be enough for a newspaper or an online news site to run a story with, but not a TV news report.

Another casualty at BBC Yorkshire, BBC Radio Sheffield's breakfast show presenter Toby Foster has been suspended/sacked. He also does Inside Out.

I'm not entirely sure where Radio Leeds Breakfast show presenter Liz Green is as she's been off for about 3 months including during the bit where they aired trailers for her show after Look North which was a bit odd.
