I think I should clarify that my earlier comments on Look North Leeds and it's reporting of a tenuous local angle on the death of Mr Mandela. My comments relate to the bulletin at 07:55 (or thereabouts) as part of the Breakfast programme where I would contend that everything newsworthy about Mr Mandela's passing would have been made in the rolling news coverage from 22:00 the proceeding evening. As the weather severely affected the east coast and specifically localities in the broadcast area of the regional news area to which we are referring I must maintain that on this occasion the BBC locally to me got it wrong.
If correspondents had seen the bulletin concerned they would have noted the large number of closed roads in Scarborough for example which although has little bearing on me some 50 miles away from a travel perspective but does have more impact on the suffering of the individuals whose homes and businesses may have been destroyed than desperately trying to shoehorn a local angle on to an international story. And to reiterate when the local angle to which they referred was simply that a book of condolence was set-up in and flags are being flown at half mast (which is only what one would expect) in two specific cities (neither being where I live) therefore I maintain the wrong call for a regional news bulletin at 07:55.

I was watching the Look North Breakfast update this morning at 6.25 and 6.55 and over of it was taken up with a report about a guy who got his arm stuck while out climbing in the Yorkshire Dales and had to be rescued. This turned out to be a advert for Helicopter Heroes that was being shown later in the morning on BBC 1. How is this news? It's an advert and shouldn't be used in a 3 minute update. It really annoys me when this happens.

BBC South (and I suspect other regions) often use the same trick, to promote stories on that night's Inside Out, it is bone idle journalism.

Yes LN do it an awful lot - the same with their politics show. Items run as if news but it's simply a cut-down from the main show.
And while we're on the subject of breakfast opts: why do they start with about 20-30secs of weather waffle then say "But first..."
It's not, so why say it. Starting scripts with "now" is getting a tad repetitive. I counted three on friday morning. It's almost worth a drinking game.

According to Duncan Wood on twitter he's off until next year with a back problem, so well be seeing lots of John, Jon & David on Calendar.
It seems to be compulsory that one of the main presenters from one of our region's news programmes must be out of action at any one time. There's probably only been a few weeks in years when they've all been on at once for various reasons!

Indeed they do, but that certainly doesn't make it alright !! Seems to be a disease sweeping through the BBC at present.

What is the problem with BBC news showing BBC news reports??

You should get a bit of perspective in life.

Well that is a fantastic argument against them.
They often stick out like a sore thumb as well because they're filmed differently.
