Very strange decision - suppose shes cheap?!

Probably cheaper than Christa reportedly was. But pretty much anybody would be if the reports are too be believed.

Slight surprising they didn't go single headed like some regions have.

Yes sure she is cheaper than Christa was. But in my view (and I await the backlash) I think Christa was worth it (based on the rumoured figures). An excellent journalist with presence. And a Yorkshire woman through and through. Experienced at what she did and despite what we read on here she was well liked by viewers I believe.

Now Amy may in due course get but I think we are beyond ever get to the point of iconic regional presenters on BBC or ITV again. There is only Harry left at Look North and Christine at Calendar that fit into that category.

I think Fred Dineage and Nick Owen would fit into that category, wouldn't they?

Sorry I was only suggesting names in Look North Leeds/Hull & YTV areas, but names suggested seem to fit the bill.

I kind of thought this too. After all, it's surely better to spend licence fee payers' money on only one anchor's wages rather than two, right? *cough* DQF *cough* Smile

However, Harry is presumably not too far off retirement by now. When the time comes, if the programme went from single-headed with Harry, straight to single-headed with a new face (male or female) it would perhaps be too much of a total change all in one go for viewers.

Keeping things double-headed for now allows a female co-anchor to establish herself with viewers alongside the familiarity of Harry. She could potentially then become sole anchor when Harry finally retires. If it wasn't for Harry's age, I too would've otherwise seen "Christa-gate" as the perfect opportunity for the programme to go single-headed.

If they went single headed they'd probably need to get someone else to do the late, as I doubt they'd come in early, prepare all day and stay for the late one, so they wouldn't save any wages.

The lack of advertising the regional news on BBC or ITV is notable at times like this. In times gone by if Christa had been axed, Yorkshire would have been running adverts promoting Calendar to try to get people to switch, and then on the BBC the new partnership would be advertised.

Now of course we get no regional adverts on ITV and on the BBC we only get the fixed Politics Show/Inside Out ones

They might be taking a leaf out of Midlands Today's plan. Get a new pairing established and then go single headed with each one presenting half the week.

Such a shame really as Look North is only a shadow of its former self.

To be honest, Look North Hull could really do with becoming double headed - it was a much better programme when it wasn't the Peter Levy Show.
