The background in question is on those Emmerdale reports!

That's it then - you must have been watching the Emmerdale opt.

Well that village produces more news than the rest of the region put together, so will certainly never run out of stories for the sub-opt!

There was breaking news all the way through Calendar tonight. Did they still run a separate Calendar South/East recorded programme? Does anyone who watches that version notice what they did?

Calendar was a bit messy tonight. They started with a localised headline sequence with the Leeds or Sheffield backdrop, then after the sting went into a pan-regional top story and the generic blue backdrop, then a sting and then into the main localised bit, looked a bit weird as the background changed from pale blue to Leeds or Sheffield in the space of a sting. Then towards the end it went localised again.

On occasions when they want to do it this way, surely they could use the Sheffield background for both versions?

By the way, it seems the two versions have different opening titles with different images.

Well wouldn't it look stranger that the news changed location for one night only on one opt? And why specifically Sheffield over Leeds?

Because isn't Sheffield covered by both due to the Sheffield relay only covering part of the city?

They used to rotate the background images sometimes in the past before they stuck with the Sheffield one.

Sheffield and south Yorkshire in general is a big overlap area, with Emley, Belmont and Sheffield all being the best option in signal quality terms in different areas.

Whether the casual viewer is aware of that is debatable, a Sheffield background is probably just as big as turn off as a Leeds one to the people of Lincolnshire I'd suggest.

Just announced by Look North (Leeds) on Twitter...

Quote:
From Nov 25 Look North will have a new presenter; Amy Garcia will join @harrylooknorth on the sofa.

Nothing mentioned yet as to whether she's just covering Nicola Rees' maternity leave, or if she's the permanent Christa replacement.

Edit: There's a longer piece on the Look North Facebook page. The way it's been announced does make it sound as if she's the new permanent host.

Permanent by the sounds of things:

A surprise. I thought Nicola Rees would be made permanent.

She used to present on those quiz channels a few years back, before retraining as a broadcast journalist, so BBC regional news will now have her joining former Brainteaser presenter Alex Lovell who's at Points West.

It's not necessarily the best use of resources to have an award winning video journalist like Nicola on the sofa rather than out in the field though?

I was never a big fan of hers, I would have preferred Charlotte Leeming to get the gig.

So that's both of the main presenters of Look North who went to South Today for a bit and came back home.
