He does seem very defensive of dear old Uncle Peeta.

Not defensive, just offering another viewpoint and avoiding making personal criticism of presenters I don't know. As I've said before, having grown up with Stuart Hall and Tony Wilson presenting the local news, I don't see much wrong in bringing a bit of personality to the local news, and the interviews make up such a small percentage of the programme. Most of it is reading off the autocue which he does perfectly well.

And again, if there's no news in this region, you can say the same thing about the South West.

No you can't say the same about the South West.

Plenty of news happens here, there is little fluff in either ITV News West Country or BBC's Spotlight. They don't need it. There would be a stink kicked up by local viewers if there was fluff masquerading as Local News. ITV found that out the hard way when they merged the Plymouth output with Bristol. They are slowly undoing most of the changes they made back in 2009 and the editorial decisions in the past couple of years have been much better.

If there is a problem with the Look North Hull opt-out, the blame for that lies solely with the editorial team there. I can't imagine that there is a lack of news in the area, more likely a lack of enthusiasm to actively find it.

I don't think I've mentioned it in this thread (though I have been meaning to), but I watched Look North Hull for about a year, and I preferred it to Look North Leeds (though not NE&C). I don't get the criticism of Peter Levy here - he seems a perfectly capable presenter and interviewer, and has personality. There seemed to be a decent range of coverage for the different parts of the region too.

Every local news programme has stories that are repeatedly covered - North East Tonight has had the Nissan car plant in the headlines for a couple of decades, for example.

TROGGLES
If anyone needs an example of how poor the areas standard of news coverage and journalism then try this.

It has been alleged over the years that Hull City council could be compared to Merseyside council of the 80's. If you want dark corridors of Labour power then look no further than City Hall. The neighbouring Tory unitary authority this year cut the housing benefit of thousands of sick and disabled people by 25%. That's an average increase on their poll tax of 200% They both appeared in the rotten boroughs awards of private eye several times for various other 'occurrences'. Where are Look Levy and the gang in relation to this reporting?

Levy has never interviewed either the leader of the Tory council nor the Chief Exec (who is paid more than the prime minister) When Levy interviewed the former leader of Hull City Council the councillor ran rings around him.

Its no real surprise as its easy to do in any Levy interview fluff or otherwise. Any journalist should know the answer of the question before answering it. When a politician ducks and dives the question you bring him/her up on it and try again - not Mr Levy. He accepts the answer and just asks the next question given to him on the card. To completely flummox him just agree with what he says and you will find that he will then ask the next question without realising that its already been answered and is obsolete - its already been answered - and is irrelevant. It is well known in the political class North of the Humber that no one will get a grilling as there is no one capable of conducting a decent interview. Even Tim - rabbit in headlights - Iredale gives them a easy time.

The one time that Look North actually got stuck in - in the early days - they took on, via another reporter, a local authority Chief Exec. They were bullied into issuing an apology even though what they said was true - reporter exit stage left.

The whole area deserves better. A properly funded Look North for the whole area with staff with gravitas as well and the fluff and nonsense (to keep the rinses happy)

As has been pointed out, the contestants that were talked about are relevant to the region, so if you're going to argue down the tenuous route, then at least talk about the tenuous link between Strictly Come Dancing and news (something that hasn't stopped the national news). At least then you have an argument.

Has radiolistner apologised yet for purposefully misleading the thread on this? Quite pathetic
I would imagine it's the lack of a strong editor - uncle Peeta likes his celeb interviews.

It's The radio entertaining element creeping in again. He isn't a trained journalist just a radio host who's comfort zone is in banal cosy fireside interviews.

The interview with Dani Harmer carried out, of course... by Amy Cole. Not Peter Levy. As you'd know if you'd watched it..

What apology? Dani Harmer had nothing to say, to anyone, on Look North. A waste of time.

How come Look North Leeds are using a different presenter for the 10.25 now? I thought the whole idea of moving Ian White onto reporting duties was so that one of the 6.30 presenters would could do the 10.25 to save money?

They do, normally.

They are doing usually but Nicola being on the wind down to maternity leave may be one reason why it isn't happening as often in the past. The fact that Phil/Charlotte are doing both main programme cover and the normal rotation of weekend shifts could be another.

Any ideas when we will see the new co anchor next to Harry?

Without wishing to speculate on an individual's circumstances, I suspect the answer to your question is related to whether Nicola has got the job long term (the job was advertised so will be subject to the usual HR procedures) and how her maternity leave will be covered.
