Yorkshire Radio was Bates's vanity project to give him a platform to air his version of what has happening at the football club after he fell out with the BBC. Now he's gone, the station had no reason to continue, and given that it's on the MXR multiplex that will be closing soon, the writing has been on the wall for a while.
On a more on-topic note, we often see the Sheffield newsroom camera (studio may be stretching it) but never York, and we never get a studio feed of Radio York on Breakfast. Are there any TV facilities at Radio York?
Not TV connected, but the sad news that DAB radio station Yorkshire Radio has just closed down.
Is this the station that was owned by Ken Bates?
Wasnt there some contreversy over them having the rights to Leeds Utd matches & keeping BBC Radio Leeds out, even for short reports?
I think it was on the cards when the BBC got back the commentary for Leeds next season. The station was owned by Leeds United, akin to the Chelsea Radio station that Bates started there.
We've been given Jennifer Bartram as another weather presenter covering breakfast/weekends (I think based in Leeds) - she's pretty awful. I hope she gets better with time but she seems to have been a weather hub presenter for some time.
She's been brought in to cover Lisa's maternity, with a bit of overlap it seems.
I was pleasantly surprised by Keeley presenting the main programme last week, I thought she might be a bit lightweight but handled serious stories with a suitable tone. She is a qualified journo so I shouldn't be too surprised I guess.
Keeley is all over the place lately. Main bulletin on Friday, Breakfast bulletins Monday then today she was on weather duties but then did the late bulletin, both news and weather. I suppose it's useful she can do both jobs.
