Harry was Tweeting regularly during his time covering the Olympics.
As Andrew suggests, he may have been on holiday after the Games ended.

I'm sure that's what it'll be.
How long has Harry been on our screens now? I know he left Look North in 1994 and came back in 1999, but has he presented Look North longer than Richard Whiteley presented Calendar?

I'm not entirely sure when Richard Whiteley started presenting Calendar, I know he was there from the start, but the concept of there being presenters and reporters seemed to be more fluid back then, all the early clips ever shown on documentaries showed him reporting rather than sat behind a desk.

Well Richard was associated with Calendar from its start in 1968 and he left in 1995, but as you say, I don't think he was a presenter for 27 years. Harry has always presented Look North hasn't he, don't remember him being a reporter
If you have an hour to spare, this talk that Harry did for Leeds Trinity students on his life and times at the Beeb and how to get into regional telly is fascinating, and well worth a watch.

He was definitely a reporter there around 1980 time, as Ken Cooper and Mike Smartt were the 'recognized single head presenters', later joined by Khalid Aziz for a while.
I remember seeing Harry Gration reporting in Leeds during an armed siege off the York Road in Leeds (near the Torres) back in the early 1980s.
Harry began at the Beeb as a part-time sports reporter from Radio Leeds, before working his way up to Sports Editor.
I suspect his first Look North appearances would have been out of vision in the form of his radio football match reports being played out on Look North Saturday over a slide with the score on it.

Contains strong language!!
As you say well worth a watch.
Sadly there's not much mention of the technicians who made a lot of this possible.
Shame as it would have added some more detail.
Maybe next time.
