Covering the torch relay is fine. Covering it in such a way that relegates "proper" news to a glorified And Finally spot is questionable.

Contrary argument: Anybody who actually cares about the torch has plenty of opportunity to go out and see it in person. Therefore "real" news (not fluffy pieces) about things in other parts of the region should take priority on the agenda, rather than filling the show with the torch relay because it's a relatively easy set-piece to cover.

Not strictly true. I could see as it passed by at the weekend but not when I'm working. That applies to a lot of people. If you've watched the coverage you'll see a predominance of school children and mums with kids. I'm sure both LN or Calendar would adapt their output if a major story broke. As your your last comment, I question your knowledge of how you think these images get to our TV screens. Most of the reporters and crews I talked to are working bl**dy hard getting to location, leap-frogging the torch, finding a quick wifi area or hunting down a sat-truck. Like you say it's relatively easy.

The torch is getting pretty decent exposure. However, I might not give two figs about the torch and want to know what's happening in my area. Isn't that what the supposed "local news" is for?

What, for catering to your interests? No, it isn't.

What I meant was that it's easier than going out and finding some real news to report. They know where the torch will be and when, everything can be planned for with the resources put in the right places rather than reacting to circumstances of a developing news story when things are being set up and arranged on the fly. I don't disagree that people worked hard, but they do every night of the week.

Yes people are interested in the torch, but did it need to take up most of the programme for three nights running?

Anyone know how the live from Hebden Bridge tonight with Spencer Stokes was done? It looked very much like it was a camera on top of a vehicle with some basic means of zooming in and out, probably on autofocus.

A Triple header on Look North tonight in Leeds.

Christa at Hebden Bridge, Harry at the Great Yorkshire Wash Out and Nicola Rees in the studio.

Indeed and the usual annual fun OB from the GYS was pretty much dropped, as is the GYS on Wednesday and Thursday.

Unusual to see Tom Ingall doing a report from Hebden Bridge as well, he doesn't usually venture outside South Yorks!

I bet Calendar aren't impressed that the GYS organisers waited until they were off the air to cancel!

It was a bit surprising to see Tom Ingal in Hebden Bridge and Nicola Rees in the studio, you'd probably expect the opposite roles for them both.

It's more of a problem for GYS, as it's given less publicity that they are cancelled tomorrow!

I think Nicola Rees is doing the bits and bobs of presenting that Amy Garcia normally does - but she's down south for a while. She's not a great presenter really but hopefully she'll get better in time.

Just to add to that as well - just seen that Joanna Gosling was talking to Harry Gration earlier on, on the News Channel. Nice to see some perfectly good regional presenters instead of the usual BBC process of sending out a national reporter, which they have done with Harry in the past as well.

During the 7pm hour last night the News Channel played out Cathy Killick's package on the Hebden Bridge floods (complete with LN outcue) and went live to Spencer Stokes from the slightly dodgy one badly framed roof mounted camera OB unit. Complete with kids pratting about behind him.
