Well we are ten minutes into Parkinson, sorry Peter Levy, and not one bit of 'news' for the area, just propaganda for the Olympic Games.

The 7.55 breakfast bulletin and the lunchtime was pure Olympic Torch (and the weather). In Look North world there must have been nothing else happenning in the region.....

Any mention on when she will be well enough to return?

Look North Hull have misspelt "tomorrow" (as "tommorrow") on their weather forecast on Saturdays for about four weeks now. It's on the first page of temperatures across the region but spelt correctly on the second page so presumably someone misspelt it on the template and nobody's noticed. Still.

They've now changed this, so I'm going to take all the credit for pointing it out.

Not for a while because she is due another dose of chemo, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Oooh 6.43 and we get some headlines.

Which is still better than what we got on EMT today. Just pure torch coverage.

This blanket coverage is turning people off. I'm bored already of it all.

I don't for one minute deny that is your view but from what I have seen from the area I grew up in and the area where I now live, both areas being host to the torch, there has been overwhelming support. Why not reflect that in the coverage? Granted, a few minutes should be spared for the headlines but ultimately the people in Manchester can live without hearing about a cotton mill fire in Burnley and the people in Leeds can live without hearing about plans for a Tesco upgrade in Barnsley.....just for the odd night whilst the torch is in the region.

Contrary argument: Anybody who actually cares about the torch has plenty of opportunity to go out and see it in person. Therefore "real" news (not fluffy pieces) about things in other parts of the region should take priority on the agenda, rather than filling the show with the torch relay because it's a relatively easy set-piece to cover.

Totally agreed.

The blanket coverage is down to the fact that the BBC has spent a fortune on the Olympics and is trying to get 'bang for it's buck'. It's why ITV haven't really bothered with it, because they ain't showing it!

The torch came to my town last week and the local paper promptly did a twelve page supplement of photos from the day, so it's hardly the BBC only giving it coverage. The torch coming to these places is big news, it's one of the few truly national events that is genuinely visiting every part of the British Isles. Even the programmes devoted to the torch aren't just watching people running, they're also able to highlight local athletes and discuss the value of tourism to the areas.

And given the only coverage most people will see is a quick "and finally" on the national news and the regional news when it arrives in their region, I doubt many people will be that irritated by the coverage.

We can't have anything nice without people who know the cost of everything and the value of nothing moaning about it.

Calendar has given the torch relay extensive coverage.
