At the end of tonight's Calendar it was announced that former reporter and Head of News Will Venters has died. This is very sad news, he was an excellent reporter and he will be missed.

Rest in Peace

Completely agree - very sad news, he was a true gent.

New look sports section on Calendar tonight. Basically John Shires sat on stools at the side with a guest.

Paul Hudson managed to knock over a piece of studio (behind the cameras) whilst Tanya was doing the sport causing a few laughs! Sure it will be on iPlayer later on.

Also some ambitious camera pans today, the intro to the sport started like this and panned downwards all the way to the side of Tanya on the sofa:

A few presenter bits

Gaynor Barnes is in the middle of, or has just completed quite a long stint doing Calendar, which is nice to see, on Thursday she was on with John which was like Calendar East reborn.

Over on Look North, Paul Hudson was unusually on weather duty yesterday.

Christa on a long break to Australia per her Twitter the other night. Who is covering ?

Is Harry doing a 5 night week again now ?

He is, but Phil Bodmer did a few days last week.

I expect it will be Tanya covering.

Look North "is appalling, presented by a weird-looking bunch of people with zero charisma," says Janet Street-Porter.

If she's referring to Look North in Yorkshire, then she couldn't be further from the truth. Christa and Harry (and subs Phil Bodmer/Tanya) have excellent charisma and make the show entertaining to watch as well as informative, especially compared to some of the drab presenters in other regions.

Using the time 10:15 suggests she might have been watching a Sunday version which isn't quite the same thing, still overdramic though as the presenters are fine, and the content is decent too.

I'm sure we all join together to wish Christine a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on Calendar soon.

It does also explain why Gaynor is now presenting Calendar.

Just seen a tweet from Christine about starting treatment, hope she's OK
