He's in Australia for a few months so may be back - though Phil Bodmer is due to return after Christmas so the male presenter shortage isn't quite so bad!

I never understood why Ian White couldn't stand in - he's been a familiar face on Look North longer than Christa has!

I don't tend to see much of Calendar, but saw the Sunday bulletin earlier and saw a report from Chris Kiddey.

Made me wonder how long he has been at Calendar? Must be since mid to late 80's?

I've noticed this clip on Youtube of Richard Whiteley reading a Calendar News bulletin in 1994

I would have thought he would have reached legend status by 1994 so wouldn't have done normal bulletins, only the main Calendar. Can anyone remember if he did indeed still do bulletins such as this during his last few years on Calendar.

Oh and as it's Christmas, it's compulsory to include this famous advert

Wow, as late as 94? I'm surprised he would do a bulletin at all by that point too, his reading's a bit stilted so I'm guessing he might have been brought in at the last minute.

I'm only 28 but having been brought up in Barnsley I still remember Richard (and Christa) doing the 3pm bulletin. I think they used to do the lunchtime at 12.15 aswell. From what I remember it was nothing unusual. Richard was of course universally liked but I think his 'legend/cult' status came even later than 1994 and at that point, to the folk of Yorkshire, he was no more an icon than Gordon Burns is/was in the North West.

Richard Whiteley used to occasionally cover the bulletins at lunch and as someone has noted the 3pm or 3.20 or whatever time it was then.

Sometimes Calendar "West" as it was there - but occasionally in my region of the old Calendar East.

Christa used to crop up more often - always put that down that he did Countdown in the daytime many weeks of teh year but still ntroduced Calendar main edition. As he didnt use to miss that many consider he recorded 250 Countdown's a year. Albeit up to 5 a day

A festive end to Calendar last night with carol singers and a snow machine outside the main entrance to the YTV studios (which looks very similar to the front of Hotten hospital Laughing )

On a completely different radio note, anyone know, are Vic McGlynn and Clarissa Morris the same person?

A rare outing for Gaynor Barnes in the evening tonight for the short Calendar. But she just mentioned that Christine doing the late bulletin which seems odd

It was the complete opposite today, Christine at teatime and Gaynor at 10:10pm.
