BBC Radio Leeds today started to use the new BBC Corporate Local Radio jingle package. Out of the 5 BBC Local Radio stations I can pick up here, I think there's only BBC Manchester that still uses it's own unique package, all the others sound exactly the same. A bit annoying when the travel news comes on, all with the same bed and often with the same person doing the travel.

And isn't it just an awful package? The jingles sound like they're performed on a Bontempi organ with the addition of some dreadful, cheesy 1980s style laser effects over them.

Compared to Leeds' previous package which sounded very fresh and up-to-date, this just sounds twee, parochial and old-fashioned, and exactly the sort of sound I thought BBC LR was trying to get away from. A real step back IMO.

As far as Humberside is concerned, I understand that each station has a choice as to whether to use the new package or not, although there is considerable pressure to adopt it. It would seem that Humberside has resisted. Good on them.

I suppose the advantage of Leeds, York and Sheffield all using the same package is that networked programmes between the three stations will sound more integrated, particularly if the proposals to increase daytime networking go ahead.

It turns out that Radio Leeds have been using the previous package since 2004 so I suppose they were due replacement. When these jingles started the schedule still had John Boyd, Alex Hall, Andrew & Liz were on Breakfast, Darragh was on drivetime.

I don't know if this is a case of cost cutting but the Afternoon show (2-4pm) seems to have been scrapped.

Instead the lunchtime show now extends an hour later (12-3pm) and Drivetime starts an hour earlier (3-6pm instead of 4-7pm)

Interesting, it looks like Paul Carrington has departed, his weekend music show has been replaced by an extended gardening show and what looks very much like they've brought back Real Lives, in the guise of "One on One", with Liz Green.

This fits with my theory that when the afternoon networking comes in, Radio Sheffield will move Toby Foster back to afternoons, and network him across Yorkshire.

EDIT - just noticed that Radio York have dropped Jerry Scott's early show from Scarborough in favour of networking Howard Pressman (why??) from Sheffield.

Howard Pressman seems to start at 5am, finish at 6am on Radio Leeds, 6.30am on Radio York and 7am on Radio Sheffield. Must be odd for him when he is trailing items that are coming up on the show.

According to Alistair Stewart on tonight's ITV Evening News, 'viewers in the ITV Yorkshire region will have an extended programme' on the Bradford City Fire anniversary at 10.35pm.

Whether or not this will actually happen now, at what time, or whether it will be an opt out or just the usual regional news length, is unknown.

More importantly, he said "ITV's Yorkshire Television region". Memories of the great chevron came rolling back... Smile

The Bradford City programme follows at 10.40 followed by a Northern Skies repeat at 11.10

Good on whoever managed to organise this schedule change, obviously not the same person who organised the lack of schedule change elsewhere on ITV1 tonight!

I wonder when they made the links for this programme, or maybe they just did it as live at 6pm when they realised they weren't going to air as normal.

With it being a special programme and obviously a lot schedule changes were made today, I'm surprised given the significance or the fire back in the 80's that it wasn't also shown in the Border region as people from that area were caught up in the fire, or even why not taken by the whole network.
Maybe they might repeat it across the network another time or on itv4.
I recorded it so when I get chance to I'll try and get some screen grabs to post if anyone is interested in them being posted

I don't think it has been mentioned that Jason McCartney (former weekend presenter of Calendar) was elected an MP. He stared at the camera - freaked me somewhat.

Also Anna Soubry was also elected. Long standing presenter of Central News East, Central Weekend and Central Post

Next week it will be 7 years since Duncan Wood joined Calendar. Doesn't time fly?

A lot has changed at YTV in those 7 years!
