It looks like Calendar might be getting a few more viewers back in North Yorkshire from Thursday.
On Friday I got a card through the post from Sky informing me that 'ITV is making some changes to the ITV1 service for your area and you may notice a difference in the regional programmes you receive from ITV1 from Thursday 22nd October 2009'. It then explained how I'd have to re-add any planned ITV1 recordings following the changeover.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this means I'll get ITV1 Yorkshire again on 103 rather than Tyne Tees. Quite why they ever thought people in Harrogate and York would prefer their news from Gateshead rather than just down the road in Leeds, I'll never know.

I always think Gaynor is very serious in the mornings compared to when shes on Calendar at 6 giggling away!
And just to update, this morning ITV1 Yorks W was back on Sky channel 103 here in North Yorkshire after about five years in the Tyne Tees wilderness.
Seeing Gaynor Barnes this morning was like having an old friend back.

Yes she is. To be fair she is probably not too thrilled to be doing the early shift!

If you ask me she should be the main anchor of Calendar instead of Christine!

Jon Mitchell mentioned the switch on tonight's Calendar, welcoming back viewers in Wetherby, Knaresborough and Harrogate. Duncan was pleased, because his wife could watch him instead of Northeast Tonight!

It's strange if it's just those three areas. I'm surprised places like York and Selby haven't been switched too, as Tyne Tees' output is just as irrelevant there.
I also didn't realise that Wetherby didn't previously get Yorkshire. Very odd when you consider it's in West Yorkshire, has LS postcodes and falls in Leeds City Council's area.

I think many inhabitents of Wetherby consider themselves to be an outpost of Harrogate (pronounced Harrow-gate, naturally) rather than of Leeds.

Well I live in Harrogate and I pronounce it Harra-gut, but maybe that makes me common. I'll probably be exiled if they find out.
Either way, I don't think anyone in Wetherby would rather have their regional news from Teesside or Gateshead than from Leeds.

For some odd reason, with my home postcode in East Yorkshire I get Calendar West on Freesat with South & East version on analogue & Freeview.
However since they chopped a lump off Belmont the signal is very poor. Freeview is down to 1 radio station and about 16 TV channels. Can't get ITV 3 & 4 anymore but seem to get Gayrabbit or some such
Dont'cha just love improvements

Currently 'ITV1 Yorks E' is not available on Freesat, along with a few other regions, as it's carried on a different satellite to the rest.
Because of broadcast rights, any channel which wishes to be Free To Air on DSat must be carried on Astra 2D which has a narrow beam focused on the British Isles. Unfortunately 2D is pretty much full, and so ITV has to broadcast six sub-regions including Yorkshire East, encrypted as FTV, on Astra 2B instead. This sadly means that you can't get them on Freesat, but you can on Sky, providing you have a viewing card.
I may be wrong, but I was led to believe that the top section of the mast which was removed carried the old analogue transmitting aerials which have been replaced by temporary ones lower down. The DTT aerials haven't moved. So you might potentially have noticed a deterioration in signal for analogue, but Freeview should be unchanged. Are you sure there isn't a problem with your aerial or downlead? They do deteriorate after time, which didn't really cause problems in the analogue days, but for DTT can mean the difference between receiving a multiplex and not.
