They both opened shops (flogging everything from dusty bins to tea towels) when they were claiming the city as their own patch. This was during the tune your ariel to Yorkshire promotion. If memory serves they were not that far from each other.

Fair enough - must have been before I moved to the area. I only remember the one shop which was marked 'Yorkshire Tyne Tees Television' on the sign.

I guess the story that the site on Coppergate was opened by Tyne Tees as a retalliation to Yorkshire's get-up-on-your-roof-and-turn-the-aerial-round (even though Bilsdale and Pontop Pike aerials are in the wrong group for Emley so you'll need a new one) campaign and became a joint operation after Yorkshire bought out Tyne Tees is an urban myth.

The promo for the YTV shop on Coppergate is dated 1987 by TV Ark, but the merger was 1992.

I know this sounds sad but I have both the YTV & TTTV promotional mugs from the campaign Embarassed Did I really want to admit that? Razz

On a similar subject the BBC produced a promo mug during the same period for Look North. This being the Beeb they did it on the cheap with Newcastle's logo on one side & Leeds on the other.

It looks like we'll be getting a new face at Breakfast for a few months. There's an advert on the BBC Jobs website for covering for Claire Frisby whilst she's on maternity leave.

The Daily Mail must be short on doom-mogering stories, because Paul Hudson appeared in it today! It was all about the bemusement of why Wetwang always appears on the LNH weathermap, people apparently not realising he is the de facto mayor of said village.

Quite why that 'story' is deemed of national importance or considered 'news', I know not! Laughing

Surely it will be covered internally by someone already working at the BBC, and they will just get another reporter to replace them which will go relatively unnoticed

It'd be nice if one of the presenters axed from Calendar could return to the screens though

Nope, that was decided before Claire's news.

It's possible, although if they already had someone in mind, I doubt very much they'd advertise it externally.

Incidentally, I see Paul has a new blog at www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulhudson where his first posting is coming in for quite a lot of stick.
