Thinking about it now, there are of course a few standalone Channel Five analogue transmitters, such as Churchdown Hill in Gloucestershire. AIUI these will be decomissioned at DSO.

Yes they will. In fact the standalone one for the Solent region, Fawley, will be shut down later this month, to allow Rowridge to have a pre DSO shuffle, ahead of the main event in 2012.

I seem to remember when the whole thing was mooted that the retiring head of region said,

''the only thing this area has in common is a transmitter''

It was going to be a problem from day one. The pseudo region is nothing more than someone's little empire within the BBC.

The money could have been spent much better by building a relay at Buckton barn (similar to Hunmanby) and giving the Yorkshire Wolds and Holderness a decent TV signal. Anything north of Hull is poor.

East Yorkshire licence payers should have access to news from what is going on up the road in York or Scarborough but get stuck with stories from Skegness & darkest Norfolk.

Somethings been bugging me on Calendar. Is the "window" behind the sofa overlooking the centre of Sheffield? If so, why when the studio is in Leeds?

Why not - if viewers in Sheffield see it does it matter where the studio geographically is?

(East Midlands Today used to have a window that showed the building they were in behind the presenters...)

They have been using the Hull 'The Deep' image recently, which used to be a mainstay of the South programme

Granada do the same, complete with visible Granada TV signs.

The East Coast is one big anomoly in terms of TV regions. I would suggest that Whitby, Scarborough and Bridlington have much in common. Whitby gets Look North (Newcastle), Scarborough gets Look North (Leeds) and Bridlington get Look North (Hull).

Hopefully we will get to see the Lincoln backdrop again soon. When it gets lighter as they only seem to have a daylight version.

While not catching it every night, I think tonight's "South" / "East" was live and therefore the other pre-recorded. As far as I have seen that is the first time.

Can see at the top of the screen when it is on tape usually

Just a turn of phrase - don't take it too literally!

I've noticed the same, those white dotted lines appear at the top of the screen during the recorded opt out part.
