We just had a 'regional announcement' on ITV1. Shocked

Nothing exciting really, just a plain old recorded "[insert film name here] is starting later on ITV2, but now on ITV1 Yorkshire, 'The Way We Were'...' etc etc.

Wow, it hasn't COMPLETELY died yet. It's better than nothing, I guess.

Yeah, but if they can be bothered to pre-record a regional continuity announcement at all, why not do one for the 6pm regional news programmes? Just a networked sequence with different annos for different regions like they did the night I wrote that message. Seems odd how it goes straight from an ad (or trailer) into the opening titles of the bulletin.

It looks even messier if the regional programme doesn't start with titles. Tyne Tees opens with the presenters.

So in my opinion Yorkshire are coming off quite lightly in the changes to regional news ITV/Ofcom proposal. This is what we will be having from 2009:

GMTV - presumably unchanged

11am - scrapped

Lunchtime - Unchanged, pan regional

6pm - Full pan regional programme with a 6 minute opt out for the east and west regions

10.30pm - Fully split bulletins for the east and west

Weekend lunchtimes - scrapped

Weekend teatime - unchanged, pan regional

Anyone else agree that this won't be particularly that bad, considering we've only had seperate bulletins for a short time and many stories seem to be shared due to the overlap anyway

I wouldnt of thought there will be separate late bulletins are the late bulletin now is pan regional it may not be as bad as some regions here in the YTV region but jobs are still going to go. Maybe even some of our famous faces that have been with YTV many years?

According to the Ofcom report there is going to be seperate late bulletins (which actually makes sense and if you go back a few years it seems strange why we had seperate Calendar East & South bulletins in the morning and afternoon that nobody watches, yet the flagship post News at Ten bulletin was always pan regional)

On Tyne Tees, Bob Johnson has been on and off recently, with various Yorkshire weather presenters covering, however tonight throughout the programme in the headlines/coming up that Debbie Lindley would be presenting, when it came to the forecast they mentioned her again, but after the sting Jon Mitchell appeared it did make me laugh. It shows they don't watch the forecast to double-check things even though he presented yesterday.

I guess Look North will soon have to re-edit their titles, given that the Yorkshire Wheel in York is closing at the beginning of next month.

I wonder what landmark they'll use instead at the end of the titles. I'd suggest the cooling towers at Tinsley, but...

I think it's actually been a huge success, but was only ever intended to be temporary. There are though calls for another one to be set up elsewhere in York.

Exactly. The same happened to the one in Manchester. it was initially only ever meant to be temporary and so they only had permission from the council to keep it for a while. So they had to take it away. The original Manchester one's used somewhere else now, but because of the success, they found another one and brought it back.

EDIT: it appears the one in York is the one orgianlly in Manchester.

Did anyone see the report on Look North Hull last night that due to digital switch over that they want to lop 100 feet off the top of the Belmont transmitter ? Shocked

It would then lose it's status as the tallest stucture of it's kind in the world. Sad

Yes, to a very small area of greenery beside the Ouse where the only thing you're likely to see is inside the office windows of Norwich Union and hen parties getting merry in Revolution. Still, if it makes gullible tourists happy...

Is it tallest structure in the EU still?

On the plus side: If that did happen, then conveniently Emley Moor Tower would then be the tallest structure of any kind in the UK. Which would be nice, given it's Grade II listed and 'iconic'.
