Very strange cock-up just happened on Look North Leeds.

A pre-recorded item with Mrs A about insect infestation started playing, but it seemed to be an out-take, as Christa ended up saying "sorry", the VT ended and then it cut to Ian and Christa on the sofa...

And now it's gone into meltdown... but Mrs A and Ian are holding it together well, and the right version of Christa's pre-record is now going out.

If it had been live, as it bloody well should be, such a cock-up wouldn't happen.

To be honest, I'm getting fed up of being "deceived" that material is live, as you would think it is on a live programme. I don't mind it being pointed out that it is pre-recorded, for example when a presenter says, "a little earlier I spoke to.."

Television is all deception - and that extends to pre-records within live shows.

Do you think its possible you're only cross about it because of all the fuss in the media over the last 18 months?

Not that I'm suggesting you're the highly suggestible type.

Yes it was quite an embarrasing mistake.

I'm not sure why a simple stand up piece to camera needs pre recording, it was hardly the most complicated bit of TV

To me it makes no difference whether something is pre-recorded or not, even within live programmes. As long as it is to a decent standard and is faultless then I have no objections. There are unplanned situations such as the servers going down but then again if you're going to pre-record something you risk it failing to play and then it looking stupid. In this case had the servers been alright then no-one would have been any wiser and I'd have no problem with the pre-recording. The fact that a relatively easy item was pre-recorded and then failed to show is what I do have a problem with.

Besides what was an outtake doing out cued up and ready to play? Surely when you have two or more versions it would all be checked prior to air that the right one was ready to go.

There's always the risk of human error though. It reminds me of the time a while back when the wrong version of Anglia's weather was broadcast. Instead of the one intended for air, they broadcast an out-take with the presenter cocking it up, stopping and saying 'f**k'.

Mr Small is in a pub in Sheffield tonight in casual clothes.

EDIT: It's actually a Chinese restaurant.

Shame I missed it - I could have gone down and had a pint with him.

Any reason for him being in Sheffield or was he just feeling hungry and thirsty?

It's part of a new feature "Days Out for Nowt" where Paul will do the Friday evening weather from a location where you can have a good time without paying - and last night's was a feature on a Chinese art exhibition in the city. Why they weren't there or outdoors is a mystery, but there you go.

I wonder if The Levy Show viewers also got Paul doing the weather in the same restaurant?

Jenny Hill is on Breakfast again, credited as "North of England correspondent" - but is she still part of the Look North team? And with her national duties, does it mean she may no longer be Mrs A's main stand-in?

Danny Savage often reports for both network and Look North.

You'll find she's just filling in as North of England Correspondent for a couple of months covering over the summer... she'll be back filling in for Mrs A when she goes off on her break in a few weeks time.

Tim Iredale was also on BBC News this morning in London being a Political Correspondent - presumably also a 'everyone's on holiday so we'll bring in people from the regions' move.

I think Danny's now permanently with network... though with the new BBC cost cutting set-up you'll find more crossover. Mark Simpson was doing main report on Look North earlier this week (the Scarborough siege) whereas presumably he was there for network if it had ended more dramatically than he did.

She was also heard doing a brief report on Radio 2 news at 9am this morning.
