I suppose a commemorative start-up like LWT did is out of the question? The titles of Thursday's programme looked very evocative of some of Dave Jeffery's other work (although the credits suggested otherwise)

A commemorative start-up? On ITV, in 2008? You must be joking!
It would be really nice if they could do something like that though. I'm just glad YTV are going to all this effort to celebrate their birthday. Shame we can't have special idents like the 30th.

Speaking of YTV what does everyone think of Kate Webster? She alright, but I have to say I prefer the other female presenters at Calendar. I'd prefer Vicky Locklin to be Christine's relief presenter instead of Kate... having watched Vicky on the late bulletin she appears to have the right mix of authority (for serious news stories) and warmth (i.e. banter with the viewer). Not keen on her cheesy jokes though! Erm... on a side note, why have they started getting guests into the studio on the late bulletins after News at Ten? They've never done this before IIRC.

I had to get some clips of this from tonight's Calendar
Even Jon Mitchell got in on the act

You didn't happen to get a picture of R Jon tonight? I could've sworn I saw him present the forecast tonight dressed in a beret, striped shirt, a fake moustache with onions draped over him (I'm guessing a nod to Bastille Day?) Shocked

I agree about Vicky, although I think she goes a tad overboard with her conversational style sometimes (starting every story 'now' or 'well' etc)

Yes they do seem to be boosting the content on the late bulletin. They get Jon in to do a weekend weather chat on Friday's bulletin as well

Nowhere near as annoying as Christa "Well, you know..." Ackroyd though.

Clare mentioned that 'Arry and Chris-ter (who's doing a 1982-style ra-ra style on Look North) were getting honorary doctorates from the University of Bradford - mainly for being from the place (joke).

Not sure if we'll get a report, but I bet they will tease Small for not getting one too on the programme tonight.

EDIT: Yep, opening name strap: Dr HARRY GRATION Dr CHRISTA ACKROYD, both mentioning they were now doctors and straight away a shot of them getting their honorary titles. You wouldn't get that on Calendar.

Yep, butt-kissing report on them just now getting their degrees. They even had clips of Chris-ter on Calendar and we even got clips of the trailers from when Mrs A was "poached" by Look North, all pale(ish) skin, subtle make-up and convential brown haircut....

Is Christa wearing blue/grey tinted tights or are her legs really a different colour to her face?

Perfectly possible that she doesn't bother with the fake tan on her legs, I suppose... But I'd be a bit worried if her skin was blue/grey! Shocked That sound like riga-mortis (sp?)! She's not the undead is she? Confused

I hope it was indeed coloured tights. Confused

How come Radio York have still got a BBC Bus? I thought they'd all been scrapped in a cost cutting exercise at the end of last year? Or is there one left that any station can borrow for OBs and events?

Sorry for the delay in replying to this (been away on my jollies for a fortnight)...

Anyway, I saw the bus in question, and it just carries generic BBC livery. The only mention of BBC Radio York on it was on the LED matrix destination display thing above the windscreen. So I guess you're right - it's just a general BBC bus available to anyone who needs it.

AFAIK Radio York never had its own bus, and previously used to borrow BBC Tees' bus on occasions.

In other matters...

Don't know if this is new of today, or launched sometime in the past fortnight, but can't see any mention of it on here, but I see the Breakfast Look North bulletins seem to have had a tweak.

There are now short titles (rather than a straight cut to Claire), and the 'Breakfast Extra' strap at the bottom has been ditched in favour of a BBC NC style DOG and clock. There are occasional captions to the reports promoting 'More on Look North tonight at 6.30' or 'More on BBC Radio Leeds' Breakfast', and the like. Looks a bit neater IMO.

I think the few tweaks make the bulletin a look a bit better and rounded off. However some of the captions are a little trivial such as 'Look North Tonight 1830' considering that is always the case bar the odd sporting event.

Is there only one of these 'buses' available, as one was at the Wolverhampton Show, for BBC WM last weekend, then at Liverpool Tall Ships for BBC Merseyside this weekend just gone? (Yes, Westy made a rare visit outside the West Midlands yesterday!)
