Would the presenter have that much influence these days? In the old self-op studio at Woodhouse Lane your comments would have made sense but nowadays surely it's down to the director?

Yes but Ian produces the late bulletin too - and is very involved with all things like that, direction-wise too. He has been for a long time.
I wasn't suggesting it's just down to him - but it is a fact that when he's on there's a lot more 'grammar' to the bulletins, and when he's doing the running order if he includes 15 seconds for the close rather than the 5 that others do you get time for the wide shot, etc.
'Arry on the "Drambuie Challenge" just now: "Nice title."
'Arry and Jenny have mentioned that brand name a few times too often in the past few minutes - and that bit of promotion was followed by essentially another free advert, this one for Pace, again masquerading as a report. Am I watching Look North or Calendar?
Another B-Team edition of Look North Leeds - Ian, Jenny and Lisa - and again, much more palatable than the A-Team. They also ended the show with a montage of good weather images - makes a change from banging on about flooding.
For the benefit of a Look Leeds report tonight, Roopa Rajani did a "fake" collection outside Harrogate Theatre today, with fellow reporter Danny Carpenter posing as her cameraman.
Seems many people who were in the Harrogate area this afternoon were watching Happy Clappy Carolyn on GMTV this morning instead, as "duped" punters who didn't spot they were donating money to the person who read the news on telly that morning ended up donating £20 which it was announced will donate to the China Earthquake appeal.

Most people in Harrogate receive their terrestrial TV from Bilsdale, so the Look North Leeds presenters would probably receive less recognition there. I wondered if that was why they chose Harrogate.
That OB was plagued with technical problems though and VT's not running properly.
We saw the ITV News gazebo and double decker bus too. And why do this in May ? Surely these sort of things are more suited to the height of summer, when the weather is *usually* a bit better.

R Jon was beleaguered by technical problems for his weather slot, he handled it commendably well I thought. I notice that some of the crew were wearing jackets with "Yorkshire Television" on-- nice to see the chevron motif is still doing the rounds!
