Was Katherine Birkett just mentioned on Look North Leeds? Harry read out a comment from someone with that name commenting on the lead story on the petition against gay adoption issue.
They had a guy from some Christian Alliance thing who, instead of looking towards Harry, kept looking into the camera with an evil glare while spouting his biased, narrow-minded sh*te. (Apologies for getting worked up there).
My partner told me that on the Breakfast bulletins, the gay adoption story was followed by a report suggesting a man abducted a child from a school in York. Read into that what you will.
EDIT: Paul Ogden, erstwhile sports reporter, stripped off his jacket and shirt to reveal an England football shirt while reading the sports news. What next - Tanya Arnold pole-dancing while reporting on the Super League? Harry now appears to have fallen asleep or into a comatose state in reaction to the madness around him, while Paul commented that he'd rather spend a night with Christa than strip off his shirt. Whatever happened to local news?

Methinks you are deliberately missing the point.
1. There were no Sheffield United/Sheffield Wednesday/Barnsley/Doncaster Rovers/Rotherham United players on the aircraft.
2. However, three ManU players from Yorkshire died in the crash.
3. Dickie Bird was a friend of one of them - Tommy Taylor. Oh, so that's Barnsley - ok with that?

But it's just not cricket (sorry).
Could they not get a hold of any Leeds United* players from the 1950s for a more relevant look back?
*Heaven forbid they get anyone from Sheffield United/Sheffield Wednesday/Barnsley/Doncaster Rovers/Rotherham United to comment on the subject...

I am aware that there were no representatives from any of the teams I mentioned on the tragic flight 50 years ago.
I mentioned those teams more to make a point (and good-humoured joke) about Look North's (and to a lesser extent, Calendar and most Yorkshire media based in Leeds) supposed bias for Leeds rather than West Yorkshire - and predicting that if a footballer of the time who was associated with or played for a Yorkshire-based football team was featured instead of Dickie Bird, it is possible they'd have chosen to speak to someone who played for Leeds United rather than a player for a team based in South Yorkshire.
However, I was not aware three of the victims of the crash were from Yorkshire, and I was not aware Dickie Bird was a friend of one of the victims of the Munich air disaster. I admit to having little knowledge or interest in football matters. I wasn't making trying to make fun of the Munich disaster, those who died or their families or friends; I would never set out deliberately to make upsetting or offensive comments about the dead. Maybe about living people, though, if they rattle my cage enough.
My comments were made as a light-hearted reflection on the frequent appearances Dickie Bird tends to make on Look North and Calendar on various subjects which are of his own interest, but may come as a surprise to those who do not know him, and sometimes of a "promotional" nature. I think I'm safe to say that it's a running joke on this board to discuss the occasions Dickie appears on either Look North or Calendar.
What I say and infer to is not meant as criticism or attacking of Dickie Bird, who I have never met but who comes across to me as a nice, easy-going chap who seems to be held in high regard across the region. The same goes for anyone who appears on Look North or Calendar - and that includes Christa Ackroyd.
Maybe I'm not the only one who has missed the point...

Migrated to Hull I think
Is Jack Charlton still alive, I believe he is? He has strong connections with Yorkshire (played for Leeds Utd, ran a shop in Garforth for a while etc), and he was a prominent footballer player in 1950s (although not called up to the England squad until 1965). And his brother was injured in the crash too if I recall.
I think somebody like JC would have been more appropriate to interview. Dickie seems like a nice enough bloke and he is South Yorkshire through and through; but I think it would be nice to have another sports veteran on just for a change!

What part of Calendar's report did you not understand with relevance to Dickie Bird?
Yes we all know he's on t' sell boook from time to time, however, he was a friend of one of the victims - Tommy Taylor.

Which part of my above post didn't you understand?
I'm aware of Dickie's connection with Tommy Taylor, and the reasoning why Dickie was brought in. If nobody else appropriate was available for interview other than Dickie Bird, then fair enough. I was just saying that it would be nice to have somebody else on for a change.
I wasn't saying that Dickie should be gagged, exiled or up put in stocks and birched. I was just putting cross my opinion that was all

Because these scanner devices are available in Yorkshire and a Look North reporter investigated it. Perhaps not the strongest local link but a link nonetheless.
Also Look North's other regular guests are in tonight - the Chuckle Brothers. As for 'why', I don't know!

Dickie aside, can anyone explain the local relevance of yesterday evening's top story, that being that wireless CCTV security systems could be accessed using a scanner by anyone outside the building.
How is that a Yorkshire story?
