Look North this morning had a brief behind the scenes shot of Barry Chambers doing the first Look North opt into Breakfast Time. The surprising thing was that it wasn't from the self-op desk. When was this introduced for the short opt outs?
On Look North there was also a clip of Peter Levy doing a Breakfast Look North during the 'guitar solo' era in the 90s, in the proper studio, so presumably not self opting there either?
Yeah the small bit of set (literally everything on screen) was in the self-op studio and as t'other Steve said, you could see the buttons and certainly hear them being pressed at times!
Severe flooding all over the East Riding of Yorkshire - some really good news pictures to be had and stories to cover and 'Look Ere arm from ULL' missed the lot and went AGAIN to Louth. - coz there is nothing North of Hull
If they do force through the cutbacks please let it be the closure of Hull and let us have a properly funded news service from Leeds
I know I moan sometimes that Christa looks rough in the studio some time, but tonight - sheesh! At least her eyeshadow didn't run. Harry was live somewhere in South Yorkshire and Jenny Hill in Hebden Bridge, with Cathy Killick standing outside the King's Arms down the road and under the Ouse here in York.
It was a bit pointless having Ian White at the top of the hour in the studio though when he didn't end up appearing during the length of Look North.

Bear in mind that as Ian does the afternoon bulletin, the 8pm effort and the late bulletin so he's in the building anyway. He was probably sitting on the sofa all the way through the bulletin ready to take over if the OBs went down. Because the timings are quite tight on the headline opts it was probably deemed safer to have Ian do them rather than cock up the timings by adding satellite delay into the equation.
Incidentally how many OB units does Leeds have? I thought there was just one SNG but they had apparently live OBs with both Harry and Christa from Wath on Dearne and Leeds centre (the other side of the city from the BBC). I think the Jenny Hill piece from Hebden Bridge was "as live".
They would probably be using National News trucks who were aleady out for the 6 o'clock news. One of them is based in BBC Leeds, the other is an independent supplier (Globecast) with a regular contract for BBC News.
One person died in Hull and two in Sheffield during the summer floods. Places were still under water three weeks later. It was slightly more than 3 pints of water.
On the other hand, the way the media in general were going about it, you'd think none of them had ever seen rain before, or were hoping someone would turn up with an ark. You could see them hoping for mass flooding again this time, just to turn a bit of damp weather into a regional disaster (probably just wanted to play with the helicopter again).
