Does the South programme have a shot of the Belmont mast where this version has Emley Moor? I was just pondering whether there would have been such a shot in there had Emley not collapsed and still looked almost identical to Belmont.

I think it is because Emley Moor Tower is an "iconic" structure and landmark (more conspicuous than a metal pole perhaps!), hence it's inclusion in the titles. Such is its prestige, it's now a Grade II listed structure now, believe it or not Laughing

Back in the 90s, Network North had a CG representation of the Bilsdale mast on the titles, which is a smilar type to Belmont. I'd guess though that it would have meant sod all to the vast majority of viewers.

And yes, the Emley Moor tower is something of a Yorkshire landmark. I would guess it's probably the country's most loved transmitter mast - at least I don't know any others which have a sizeable Facebook group devoted to them.

Look Levy decended into more lies and farce tonight, at the end of the programmes we have nicey and smashie poptastic megamungus radio gold type birthday dedications to somebody or other in Majorca ! Laughing

Also I just happened to catch the recording today of the protest in Driffield against supermarket developments. (They were in the way and I had to shove past) It was a pretty sombre affair with a bussed in rent-a-crowd. The Look Levy team were struggling to film something so organised a group of schoolgirls who were passing with a few borrowed banners and plackards and then a team member shouts 'come on girls remember you will be on the telly tonight'! Razz

Stage managing demonstrations for news are we now? What would Mark Thompson say?

Yes I've noticed that Fbk group too! Cool As far as I'm aware it's the only concrete telly transmitter in the country; Emley Moor has a certain amount of prestige, since it's the tallest free-standing structure in the UK. It also can be seen from around 110 miles away on a clear day (from Moel Fammau), so it is certainly a prominent landmark.

All the other telly transmitters are guyed metal-lattice poles in this country-- unless someone knows otherwise? Confused

This is starting to get to be a habit (from Colemanballs this fortnight's PE) Laughing :

I remember in the not so distant past something about the BBC wanting young Kaplinsky wannabes presenting the 8pm bulletin in the regions.

Did BBC Yorkshire not get wind of this? We've got Ian White!

Probably got Chris-ter in line for the job... the fake tan, Posh Spice haircut and outlandish dress sense certainly fulfill the Kaplinsky quota, I'm sure the age factor can be overlooked...

No, it's a fact - it will be Ian doing it. Clare mentioned it this morning.

My mistake - two doses of Mrs A is enough for anyone to handle twice a day.

I was right - Peter mentioned it at the end of Look North that it would be Hannah, though I forgot to watch.

Nobody mentioned Friday's Calendar where the two part regions partially came together for half the programme

Duncan and Gaynor were live at Toll Bar, with Kate Webster in the studio in the north and John Shires in the studio in the south
