The Calendar changes actually made the service less "local" / "sub-regional", but in a way that cunningly dressed it up as more local. Many of you seem to have been successfully duped by ITVplc.

Given that some of the weekday Calendar short bulletins used to be sub-regional, plus a segment within the 6pm show, there was something like 20-30 mins of sub -regional Calendar on any given weekday anyway.

All that they've actually done is move that "30 mins of sub -regional per day" to one part of the day (i.e. the 6pm -6:30pm window) rather than having it spread in bits across the day. All short bulletins are now pan-regional.

But there were three sub-regions before, now there's only two - the new "South" being the old "East" and "South" combined - hence my contention that Calendar's actually less sub-regional.

Making the whole 6pm show fully split, cleverly glossed over the fact that there were fewer sub-regions. ITVplc haven't duped me - I noticed!

I wonder which is the more expensive to make, the current situation of 2 full Calendar's or the previous situation of 3 sub opts 3-4 times throughout the day

In the Hull city centre office there are still two Yorkshire Television signs complete with Chevrons on the front of the building (look just like the old YTV end caps). Underneath the signs there are ITV1 logos on the windows.

Not sure, however, if the building is still in use.

I think YTV moved out of the Prospect Centre in Hull around three years ago.

True they have not used the building for years, they can't get rid if the lease, however with those mucky nets at the window it hardly has kerb appeal Wink

Someone must have put those ITV logos over the last year or so. Sadly it looks like the only place left with original YTV signage is in a mucky old shopping centre in mucky old ULL.

Talking of signs the mystery surrounding the BBC Queenies Court sign remains. A few months back the very expensive illuminated sign was replaced by a small vinyl sticker Confused Is this the start of the downgrading of Queenies Orange and yellow open drop in/out centre foyer? Crying or Very sad

Calendar still has a small crew based at the Prospect Centre. The shop area is long defunct but a reporter and camera operator work there. What will happen after Offcom's decision will prove interesting as the other Calendar Regional Offices - apart from Sheffield are much smaller.

Yes, you're right that the Yorkshire change was a sleight of hand, but it was still - IMO - counter-intuitive to go to the effort of creating an extra studio (albeit a subdivision of existing space).

I'm willing to bet that it was done as cheaply as possible. The dividing wall probably only just about meets the bare minimum structural and sound-proofing quality. It was probably done by a cheapo local builder out of the Yellow Pages, who either works totally alone or with just a single colleague, rather than a crack team of super-duper building contractors etc. Which would explain why the studio was vacated for ten weeks just to build one poxy wall.

And it also means that when the 6pm "South" show is scrapped, its studio can potentially house something else if ever needed. (Even if that only means it becoming an office or storeroom or something, rather than continuing to be used a studio).

Which is surely a better use of the physical space within the building, than having a news programme that need only have a poxy little set being housed in a great big studio?

So, it probably wasn't quite a total waste of time, effort and money.

Ah, cynics - I guess you didn't get that job at YTV then?

Well... it's just that it seems highly unlikely that ITVplc would throw a lot money at something that was probably only ever gonna exist for a couple of years, when the general ITVplc desire is to become less and less regional.

Hence my assumption that the Calendar structural changes were probably done as absolutely cheaply as possible. Smile

PS: As you've probably gathered from my signature, I don't live in YTV land, so wouldn't be going for a job there! Smile

Did someone not tell calendar there would be a break at 26 mins past. They were in the middle of a report before cutting to some adverts

Considering there are no other posts on the subject, it looks like it was only Calendar who thought they were finishing at 6.30 tonight. I'm sure many people are annoyed they didn't get to see Gary Wilmot Laughing

I think you are making a lot of incorrect assumptions about the studio rebuild. What about lighting, camera and sound equipment - all doubling what we can guess was in place. My bet is construction stopped on the new set up when bulletins and programmes were running.

Nowadays, in order for "My Profile" to accept any changes (e.g. to your signature), you HAVE to type a random bit of text into a little box that asks you to, before you "submit".

Maybe you've not been doing that? Smile

Just been mentioned that Paul and Nicola Hudson have had another baby and that Mr H is now on paternity leave, and, according to Harry on LNL, he will be back sometime in 2008.

How will Levy cope?

In other LNL news, the gang will be at the formerly flooded Murderhall in Sheffield, turning on the Christmas lights live on the programme.
