Just checked, the gathering of Civic Heads took place in Hull today to commemorate Yorkshire Day, hence the coverage on Look Levy.

According to Wikipedia, next year's gathering takes place in Redcar - ironically, 40 years after it stopped being a part of North Yorkshire! Also possibly a bit out of reach for Calendar and both LNL and LNH, no?

I would think it would be very much TTTV/BBC NE terrority. I would imagine Calendar and LNH/ LNL would pool the story should they cover it

Anorak time now: Redcar is now back in the geographical/ceremonial North Yorkshire, since 1996. However it's still officially part of the North-East Gov region, since the Gov regions were drawn up in 1994-- when Redcar was still part of Cleveland (created in 1974).

When Cleveland was scrapped administratively, it was discontinued ceremonially too. It was split geographically between N-Yorks and Co Durham along the line of the River Tees. Ex-Cleveland and Darlington now also form the semi-official "Tees Valley" Gov sub-region.

You'll sleep easy tonight, knowing all that Wink

Tonights Look ULL's Yorkshire day reporting concentrated on ULL accents and ULL trains. Since when has ULL been Yorkshires' greatest city? Doesn't York come into this or perhaps Leeds or even Sheffield.

'ULL is Yorkshire's worst city. Even a field with "brown dollops" dotted randomly around is better than 'ULL.

I thought Redcar was now part of the unitary authority of Redcar and Cleveland?

Mind you, I did use Wikipedia as my source... d'oh.

Laughing It is a unitary authority, but geographically/ceremonially speaking Redcar & Cleveland is within North Yorkshire.
Redcar & Cleveland

Factoid for you: There are only six UAs in England with county status: Herefordshire, Rutland, Isle of Wight, East Riding of Yorkshire, City of Bristol and City of London.

All other UAs in England "belong" to a county, with the unique exception of the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees, which is split between Co Durham and N Yorks by the Tees. I blame John Major personally

Well Hull was voted No 1 in for Crap Towns , but was cruelly relegated to 18 for the book's sequel!!

I have to say that compared to Look Hull, Calendar has a rather fresh feel to it. So far for the background shot, we've had Sheffield, Hull (The Deep) and now Lincoln Cathedral.

John and Gaynor work really well together and if you enjoy weather banter (I know some do), Jon Mitchell has come on leaps and bounds.

Random thing that annoys me though about Calendar, the random plugging of Emmerdale. Was it really necessary to have Grayson in the studio tonight (no not Larry).

Grayson was on on the other version as well

In the West it looks like that now Christine is back from her holidays that Duncan has now gone so we now have the partnership of Jon Hill and Christine Talbot

Jon Hill has also come on well as a presenter and is probably better than Duncan

Jon Mitchell's weather spot is good on Calendar because he actually gets space to do his weather item. On Look North Paul tends to get shouted down by Christa "Just admit it you got it wrong". It would be better IMO if the weather slot was at the end of the programme though

Who covers for Christine now ?

The East are used to mid-bulletin weather with Look Hull so the weather chat is not a real problem, and we still get the bulletin at the end of the show "in fine detail".

and of course Yorkshire do the UV Sun Report at the top of the programme (most other regions put it at the end apparantly) so Jon Mitchell pops up allover the programme

Kate Webster or Rachel Philips sit in for Christine when she's off and also do Fridays, who covers for John and Gaynor?

I don't know if they do this on the East programme but whenever one of the main presenters is off, both presenters will introduce themselves at the start "Good evening you're watching Calendar with Jon Hill and Christine Talbot". It's a good feature and probably a way to get the cover presenters well known in the Calendar region

Tina Gelder and Paul Burland are usually the cover, although John Hill has also turned up on East as well.
