the 'outcry' over the content of look north hull seems to be limited to half a dozen members on this forum. the viewing figures remain acceptable.

His figures only remian acceptable due to the follow on from the six - I seriously suggest you watch this **** and make your own mind up - seasoned forumers aren't making this up!

Watch three days worth of Look North Hull and you'll realise how dire a regional "news" programme can actually be.

i have seen the programme. you're right, its not newsnight. but then its like comparing channel report with midlands today. in an area lacking multiple conurbations the news agenda is going to edge towards the fluff.

research shows that people do like regional news to be local - which is why those free papers do so well and similarly bbc local radio. they both might only deal with stories which we may see as trivial, but it is about the places where people live and work - and therefore people care. most normal people in birmingham care very little about the mayoral election in stoke on trent or gloucester rugby club, and i'm sure the feeling is mutual. so i'd imagine the same is true of leeds and boston.

why not just enjoy the programme for what it is - a real life alan partridge.

I have to disagree for the following reasons. The whole point is that there is very little Local News. Local meaning the geographic area is not covered properly for those who do not live in Hull - Which is 72% of the TSA viewing public whilst most of the news gathering resources are based there. News as in they have stooped so low that they are making things up and substituting staff for Vox Pops public opinion. There have been serveral stories of late in which they have made serious errors in the reports and a couple of occasions when there is evidence of misrepresentation of facts.

There is a VERY clear remit for the BBC local service and Look Levy is not meeting its committments. With respect if I want to watch Alan Partridge I can - I don't want it served up in place of factual programming.

As for BBC local Radio, Lincolnshire is all over the place with its ratings losing the core audience to Saga Radio and Bumbleside is dropping nicely. Bumbleside only covers Hull, Grimsby & a bit of Scunthorpe and forgets the rest of its TSA.

The whole point of BBC regions is that they are supposed to reflect and report the region. BBC Hull is sloppy, badly produced and badly managed and a waste of resources which could be put to better use producing programmes for the North region

Fantastic! Very Happy

In fact here is a quick mock of the new Peter Levy theme music (just add garish pictures of Peter Levy to the exisisting titles)

I wonder if Paul Hudson might like to hear those awful jingles...

Interesting idea. I notice that Sheffiled is on Small Hudson's map too! I think it would be better for LNH to drop its de facto coverage of north Norfolk, and include north Nottinghamshire-- Mansfield-Newark northwards as of Calendar South (strangely lots of people in Notts watch his Levyness !). And leave North and West Norfolk with no BBC regional news coverage?

Shame it took Look North about three days to cover this story properly.

He was standing for that story in Boston too, interviewing that dance troupe (he went south of the Humber*-- he must have had a nosebleed Wink ). They suggested he that wear lederhosen Shocked <"cold sweat at the very thought" emoticon>

I think you may be missing the point TVMercia. I think grumping about Look North Hull is part of the fun of TVF, not be taken too seriously !!

Although there is a serious point underlying some complaints. The programme ostensibly covers the Belmont transmission area. However most the editorial coverage does not seem venture more than a 15-mile radius from Hull.

Calendar South manages to find plenty of stories from southern Lincolnshire. It often finds stories from north Norfolk, north Notts and even north Cambridgeshire-- the periphery of Belmont's transmission area. So why can't LNH do that? If LNH is too lazy to cover those areas, then pinch stories from Look East or EMT

Also it can be argued that allegedly passing of staffers as "members of the public" is poor journalism! Then there's the questionable decision to have a person with no apparent journalistic experience to front a "news" programme.

It may be only a handful of people on this website, but they are entitled to they opinions just like anybody-- especially since LNH is funded by us licence fee payers!

*As for South Humbershire-- surely North Lincolnshire and NE Lincolnshire? Wink His Levyness had an investigation about why N/S Humberside was still used as a postal county, since both postal counties and Humberside were dropped in 1996. A lot of strong words with companies I seem to recall!

The area is still on the South side of the Humber! The area was known as Humberside long before 1974 but that phrase only became hated due to the artifiial county that used the same name. Merseysiders are proud of their river and their association with it so why not Humbersiders?

Because Hull was always in East Yorkshire, And Hull people were proud to be in East Yorkshire.
