the Holme Moss situation is interesting with three BBC local stations (Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester) being transmitted from it, using directional aerials.

It's the only example of that being done successfully I'm aware of - Sutton Coldfield originally transmitted BBC Radio Derby but that was for the benefit of the beancounters and was really too far away from the area it was meant to serve.

I used to be able to get Radio Derby when it was on 104.5 off Sutton.

yes - their jingles were the type that forced you to sing along. very good indeed.

if there's one thing that'll annoy the northerners more than local radio talk in their thread - its midlands local radio talk in their thread Laughing

But the north midlands are part of our patch though - "Across Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the North Midlands this is BBC1 with Look North", as they used to say.

Because of that particular transmitter, you can easily recieve BBC Radio Sheffield as far west as Cheshire, I've had Radio Manchester as far as South Cheshire too, but as said they all share the same transmitter, but saying that BBC Radio Leeds isn't as easy to pick up.

I can pick up all 3 of them here, Manchester being the weakest. BBC Radio Sheffield is perfectly clear and annoying how their travel bulletins pop up in the car every 20 mins

Vicky Locklin has just announced that that was her last ever bulletin for Calendar and wished us a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I managed to turn it off in my car, I have BBC Radio Manchester on preset, but for all traffic updates it usually switched to Radio Lancashire or Radio Merseyside for the traffic, but it's odd considering I'm actually closer to Manchester than what I am to the other two.

If my memory serves me correctly, didn't it used to be a television transmitter for nothern England (hence its size and elevated location), before Emley Moor et al were built?

Yep - Holme Moss was the 405 lines BBC transmitter and covered both sides of the Pennines, unlike Emley and Winter Hill

Was it a pan-regional bulletin? Maybe it was actually her last bulletin for Calendar West and she's doing the Belmont service?

No it was the late bulletin which is pan-regional, and in any case all bulletins are pan-regional at the moment

Looks like everything has gone t**s up on the late bulletin tonight! No opening titles, reports not cueing up, etc. Ian White has told viewers to go to the website to get the stories, as they can't produce them live on screen!
