Regretably Look Hull has always been screwed budget wise. It was understood that if it went ahead it had to be created from the large region with no extra running costs. The (excessive) capital expenditure was made available for the building but most of the staff had to came from Leeds there was little new recruitment, unless you count the staff from the open centre which is of course the BBC's priority rather than programming and content.
Ironically it is the smallest region with the largest audience for local news programmes! Presumably all the viewing figures are taken in Hull

Wonder if they're doing pilots for the new East show, which would presumably require the gallery facilities which are used for the Calendar East roundup?

Now you mention it, they did drop the sub-opts at this time last year as well, so nothing extra should be read into it
If it's like last year, they'll probably be back as normal on the 2nd January
How long for, nobody knows, although I doubt they will launch the new programme on the 2nd
