Well, on the basis of that pic, they're definately physically in the newsroom. Presumably the usual Calendar studio is being turned into two studios, a la Central in Birmingham?

YO
Vicky Locklin is doing the news summary in the newsroom itself.
Behind her is a computer with the paint programme load and the ITV logo with a blue background is being displayed as if it is being edited for something!!
I know it is pure speculation but you can clearly see it is the paint programme and not a background on the PC

Here's tonight's Calendar

This was the widest shot we got. Duncan confirmed that the builders were in in the studio so they have decamped to the newsroom stage. Christine said that presenting in this location was nothing new, as they used to do it all the time years ago, which was a good enough excuse as any to dig out this archive clip with Richard Whiteley

Selwyn Froggatt
I still cannot believe that Richard Whiteley is dead.
Anyway, the studio is OK, but what will the new studio look like?

Just like the old one but a bit more squashed up I assume. Anyone know how big the Calendar studio is compared with the Central News studio?
Does anyone else think that they should have not bothered with the strange white/grey background and just sat in front of the open newsroom?
They could have just made sure the newsroom walls were lit in corporate greeny-blue, stuck up more corporate logos and brandings etc and it would have looked ok
The seats in the Richard Whiteley era are similar to what they have now, so they could have arranged the furniture in the same way as well, just for old times sake!
They seem very squashed in the set up they are using, there's no room for a plasma, and what about guests!

Nice to see the Chevron again.
Calendar is making a fuss about nothing they are refitting the studio for two Calendars following YTV's research showing that Lincolnshire folk felt left out and the rather annoying popularity of the Grannies Friend, Levy, in Hull.

I had assumed that in the years that have passed since Calendar moved to a "proper" studio, that YTV would have made, say, structural changes etc in the newsroom (e.g. move a load of the desks into what used to be the Calendar set space, so that the "clear space" would all be at one particular end of the newsroom, then build walls etc, to turn that "clear space" into - say - offices, thus leaving the newsroom only just big enough to be, er, a newsroom).
I assume that nothing like that has actually ever happened, then? It's just that, if it has, how the flip could Calendar possibly squeeze into the newsroom now?

Are they actually on the newsroom floor or in the balcony studio where the short bulletins used to come from (as per the clip I pointed to earlier) It does seem a very strange camera angle to be using if they are on the floor, pointing up to include the ceiling.

They are on the Newsroom stage, it was last seen on ITV1 on the 2005 series of Package Holiday Undercover with Mark Durden Smith
Last time they were evicted from the studio, they just used a bit of the newsroom proper, so I'd expect this temporary studio will be in use for quite a while. How long did Central News West stay in their temporary location?
