I've wondered this for a long time but is the Look North Hull 3.20 News Update pre-recorded? I get this impression because there is never any mention of it at the end of the lunchtime programme and the presentation of it comes across as quite bland and doesn't give the appearance of it being live. I always thought the Yorkshire version was live on the other hand because it tends to have more life into it, though the lack of a weather presenter in the studio doesn't do either of them any favours IMO.

All news bulletins on BBC 1, 2, itv, Channel 4 and five have to be live. If they are not done live then they can get into serious trouble with ofcom. An example of the trouble they can get into is from what happened to Central News East last year when they pre recorded the late bulletin.

Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose it wouldn't be a feasible idea to pre-record news anyway in case there was some breaking news.

I've never heard Midlands Today 130 trail the 320, only the 630! (If you follow that!)

Just to clarify Ofcom doesn't regulate the BBC & has no influence (supposedly) over the content of any of the BBC with the exeption of the % of progrmming commissioned from outside the BBC. It also shys away from involving its self with the content of the news on ITV.
Chunks of the regional magazines generally get pre-recorded because of the availability of the interviewees. It was always difficult to get people to Hull hence all the down the line stuff. The link to Lincoln is a pain because of the way its routed. Its because of the unique way the BBC is funded Wink

I thought OFCOM did have some regulatory influence over the BBC from its heritage as being a descendent of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission and Broadcasting Standards Council?

I was just thinking the other day... does anyone know what happened to the plans to launch a BBC Radio Bradford? All seems to have gone a bit quiet. Has it been shelved?

Perhaps somebody's realised that there are no spare FM frequencies to do it with? The 102.7 Keighley frequency could be reallocated, but whether 95.3 Wharfedale could as it's co-channel with Luddenden is an interesting question. As is whether it would be anyway as it covers Otley which is very much Leeds but also Ilkley could editorially be claimed by either Leeds or Bradford.

Plus the logistics of there only being one studio in Bradford which probably isn't enough for a full station (unless they reopen City Hall and have a studio at either end of the city), and the further can of worms of the good people of Calderdale, Kirklees and possibly Wakefield rightly wanting to know why we can't have our own station if Bradford can.

And a big problem is getting an FM signal over the moor to Ilkley etc.
It's just about ok from a house aerial but hopless on anything else.
Besides who wants to listen to more hospital radio?

Radio Bradford was one of Tamsin O'brians' (Head of regional programming) favorite projects & she is leaving to go back to Manchester so its up to the new HLRP to decide if its worth the bother.

Just wondered if anyone knew what the calendar team of the mid-seventies were doing these days. Alan Hardwick was kicking about in Lincolnshire recently but what about Roger Greenwood & Marylyn Webb?
