I personally liked the show whenever I listened but I wasn't really a regular listener.
If the Late Show continues then I wouldn't be surprised to see Steve Seoul (sp?) presenting as he has covered for Alex before.
Then again it might be an opportunity to provide local programming through until 01.00.

Steve Saul is now a major newsreader on BBC Radio Manchester

Also over on GMR is Diana Luke

Radio Leeds is a lot different now compared to the days when Peter Levy was on

Radio Times is listing Russell Walker on instead of Alex Hall next week. York and Sheffield are still listing Alex Hall

Sorry to be pedantic, but BBC GMR of course, ceased to exist on 2 April.
Diana Luke is regular cover on the station. I've also heard Kevin Greening and Martin Kelner recently - all names that are on/have been on Leeds.

I'm sorry to disagree about improvements. Radio Leeds still sounds like a ghastly Hospital radio to me. In fact if you listen as I do in the car most BBC local radio sounds the same. I can't understand why compared to their national output which is of a high standard. It's all the jingles and news trails like "West Yorkshire and the World" that particularly irritate.

Now this is where I have to disagree, as I think BBC Radio Manchester's jingles and trails are rather superb, even more odd is that the current themes being used by Manchester and Leeds were created by the same company; IQ Beats, RM's TOTH is rather superb, although they've changed the TOTH slogans from....

"On 95.1FM, DAB Digital Radio, and on the World Wide Web, this is Manchester, BBC Radio Manchester...(GM pips).."

to

"On 95.1FM, DAB Digital Radio and on the World Wide Web, you're gonna love where we're coming from! BBC Radio Manchester...(GM Pips)..."

...though one would guess most BBC Local Radio stations have rather similar things.

Exactly my point!
Agreed - radio output includes trails etc. It's the content in betewwen that's more important. Talksport is a superb example. Some quite funny trails in between dross most of the time. Most listeners don't tune to radio for the trails. It's like saying I watch ITV for the ads before Coronation Street.

I'm guessing there are a selection of different companies that BBC Local Radio use for jingles therefore. I know BBC Radio Sheffield comes from Bespoke Music as do a selection of others including (IIIRC) Cleveland, Cambridge and Devonshire.
Out of interest do all the radio companies do echoes on presenter and programme names? Every time a name is mentioned it is followed by an echo as a whisper. It sounds alright but I didn't know if this was a radio thing.

I suppose it's down the individual station as to which company they'd like to make their jingles. As you say, Bespoke are popular at the moment, as are IQ Beats. Music 4 have done quite a few in the past, including the BBC London jingles.

It's just a production technique... probably a bit overused.

Is anyone else getting tired of Look North's "let's pretend this interview is live" attitude. Why can't they just say "earlier, I spoke to...."
