Wasn't the Hull building meant to contain lots of new technology that they were trying out before rolling out elsewhere? Hence all the cockups early on...

Do you mean Gregs great experiment? About £10 million of the £27 million it took to build Hull was allegedly spent on the gear. Apparently there is still redundant equipment from the great KIT experiment - or disaster depending on your point of view. I don't have much to do with the place now (thankfully) but there was a great deal of new technolgy experimentation and development testing. The jury is out on If it was value for money. Confused

I don't know but he's recently popped up on York TV... which probably has even fewer viewers than UK Conquest.

I was interested to see a Peter Lugg package on Look North (Leeds). Now as far as I know Peter moved to Look North (Newcastle) some time ago, but as we know packages are sometimes shared between neighbouring regions.

This particular piece was 16:9 - so has Newcastle got the means to produce material in widescreen and squirt it down the line to another region in 16:9 but can't transmit it as such, or was the package edited in Leeds or something?

He is, he's one of Newcastle's lead reporters.

I was talking to Peter Lugg about a year ago at a friend's party (nice guy by the way). He was telling me how most Look North reports are now a one-man operation. Basically he goes out with a lightweight DV camera and shoots everything himself, often having to use a tripod to shoot his own PTCs.

I would imagine the DV cameras, being relatively new, are 16:9 capable. It's presumably possible therefore for Newcastle to produce 16:9 reports, even if their studio and gallery are still 4:3.

Presumably if it's DV based it could be edited on computer and then sent via the network to Leeds rather than playing down the line into a video recorder at the other end?

Are Newcastle being upgraded bit by bit then? I thought Leeds were all tape based until moving out of Woodhouse Lane

I don't think the new reporter-operated cameras are so much of an upgrade as a cost-cutting exercise, so they can get rid of sound men and camera operators.

Yeah - I was meaning more upgrade the cameras and editing to be 16:9, then upgrade the studio cameras and gallery later.
