Also, an unusual feature of tonight's Calendar was that Christine and Duncan read the News Round-up, instead of a seperate presenter

Apparently the sub-regional opts have been ditched on the run-up to Christmas whilst staff training happens. They will return in the New Year.

Calendar News might as well give up. When you get a better news service from Peter Levy you know you are doing something wrong.

Have they cut back so far that they have to abandon a news service just to provide staff training?

Here's some pics of today's Calendar Christmas Special

Duncan and Christine were live from a festive street

There was a round-up of news back in the studio from Michelle Gee
http://www.hillyard22.freeserve.co.uk/calendarxmas1.jpg
http://www.hillyard22.freeserve.co.uk/calendarxmas4.jpg
Gaynor was there as well with some festive cookery tips
http://www.hillyard22.freeserve.co.uk/calendarxmas6.jpg
and also along were Yorkshire Weather's Kerrie Gosney and Jon Mitchell

Due to Jon and Kerrie being on the OB, Jon did the weather out of vision which was a bit odd

Calendar is back on the 3rd January, but of course there will be Calendar News bulletins throughout the festive period.

The opts have been abandoned for some years now, it's no surprise - people want time off you know! As for Levy, you must have been on the mulled wine a bit too soon.

My spies in Sheffield, who attended the Calendar South Christmas Lunch, at the Cutlers Hall in Sheffield, tell me that in 2006, ITV is promising a huge investment in the local opt out service (new building, kit etc.) Obviously the building will be needed as the Grosvenor House Hotel is coming down, and the kit probably for HDTV.

However, who knows anything about Calendar News Extra? Apparently it is well liked in ITV circles (never heard of it myself) and it is produced from Hull. The last time I was in Hull, the YTV office was sparse and the name on the door read "Yorkshire Television Productions Limited" with a number in Leeds to phone. Anybody any ideas.
