Why do LN Hull insist on getting people on for Peter to "interview" about the news stories where something's gone wrong who aren't responsible for the cockup, in the knowledge that he's likely to try to have a go at them about something that isn't their fault.

For example the story about a lack of dentists tonight, they drag the MP for the area on, who happens to be a Tory, and he agrees that the situation isn't acceptable. What does Peter expect the MP, whose party isn't even in government, to be able to do?

Peter has always been very poor at this type of Paxman style interviewing, he just has a go at the guest over and over again, regardless of what the guest's answers actually are.

What do you expect really from a DJ turned presenter, this is probably why they have turned Look North Hull into a televised radio show

As annoying as it is the viewing figures are very high and getting higher. All the research shows a huge polarisation of the audience and unfortunately there are more blue rinses and 'peter luvvers' in the region than those who want a decent journalistic led news programme. The editor is considered as doing a remarkable job by English regions management - but theyr'e in Birmingham and don't have to watch it.
This coming year all BBC local news programmes have been given a target for audience share. Look Hull is far in excess of this target and is actually now being cited as a template for BBC news programming to acheive this. Think about it lots of 'Peters' all over the country Exclamation

So why not move Peter onto another hour, "The Peter Levy Show", with BBC Hull being a proper bulletin?

That's a budget issue. Hull can barely afford to get Look North on air, there is no money for anything else. All the investment went into the building and technology. Leeds technically took a budget cut and had to spread staff between both centres. There could well be a job cut or two in the offing.

On tonight's Calendar and Look North there was a full round up of regional news, sport and features. Look North was notable because it was hosted by Harry Gration and Penny Bustin.

Meanwhile over in Hull, Peter was apparantly chatting to someone out of Holby City, who happens to live in Lincolnshire.

The fact that the later gets a higher audience share than the former says a lot about people in Hull.

Maybe to compete, Calendar East should stop providing a news service, and instead Karen Petch could use the sub-opt time to chat to a local celebrity?

Yeah I have seen him on there before I think he does the occasional weekend duty for them up in the north of England

This is becoming more evident as the complaints mainly come from viewers in the east riding who feel cut off from the local news. The consensus is that local means Hull & anywhere south of it.
A new 'localised 'news service is due to begin for Hull next year - it will be available online and by pressing the red button. The plan is for 5 areas East Riding, Hull, North Lincs, Lincoln & South Lincs & North Norfolk, each area to have 10 mins every hour repeated twice only there is only enough money for one area at the moment. Its also going to be available on your mobile. The demo looks quite good however whilst the technical side is nearly sorted the quality of the material will still come from the Look Hull stable so you make your own mind up there. Rolling Eyes

Shropshires also experiecing this "innovation in regional news"

Personally I'm quite looking forward to Shropshire Today or whatever its called.

Meanwhile what the hell they'll cover remains to be seen, I barly find anything to fill a column, let alone 10mins.

Is this a joke? Is he freelance?

Some regional reporters and presenters do work for other companies on a freelance basis when their main employer ie ITV as not schdueled them in to work.

You might remember not so long ago, there were a lot of job cuts in regional ITV newsrooms, and Calendar was particularly badly affected.

As a result a lot of them opted for a voluntary redundancy package and are now freelance. I assume this is the case with Frazer and also with Faye Barker, hence her appearances on Real Radio.
