Bob Rust came into the studio yesterday and was given a tour of the 'new weather office' with Jon Mitchell. Apparantly they've moved nearer the Calendar newsroom, so that'll be why the framing of the weather looks a bit different now

On tonight's Calendar firstly Tim Iredale looked at the 80s with clips of 321 and also showing off that YTV invested in a fancy new ident in this decade, then followed a full showing of the Liquid Gold.

They then moved on to looking at old regional adverts with the famous Mike Smith from the famous 'As Seen on TV' Mike's Carpets (Armley Leeds and Bradford Road Batley) coming in to the studio.

Very northern, flat cap, whippet sounding place names here, such as Heckmondwike

It obviously paid off though, Mike has apparantly got a few bob now.

I think Mike's Carpets are still open, its a pity he couldn't buy a slot on ITV1 Yorkshire and advertise in it, to celebrate ITV 50.

Aww, he's not even bought a new tie since he was last on telly. I've got a video somewhere with him wearing the same one in the early 90s!

From what I heard he didn't want to leave his job, but as a Met Office employee (and therefore a civil servant), he had to retire at 65.

Kay Mellor was the guest on Thursday as they looked back at drama from Yorkshire. Tonight it was John Helm who spent half the time talking about sports programming he's worked on whilst freelancing, nothing to do with ITV!

Its a shame they always look back to the 'old days' and then get right up to present day with these types of nostalgic lookbacks. For example during the week they've shown the original b&w ident, the 70s one, the liquid gold and then the current ITV1 Yorkshire one. Why do they never show the generic ITV ident, or any of those from the 90s. There was also, unlike other regions, nothing about continuity announcers.

Did Yorkshire have in-vision continuity announcers? If they weren't in-vision there's not much point.

No, I believe YTV never did have in-vision continuity, however the CAs were still household names and would have rated a mention.

There is a newish trailer doing the rounds for Look North (Hull). Any guesses as to who this mystery man is preparing his tea in a smart looking kitchen, probably overlooking the Hull Dock ?

Of course, it's Peter watching himself on the telly.

Peter's closing line is "If I wasn't presenting Look North, I'd be watching it". Not sure that's the best tag line ever, he may well find many other viewers might agree with him. Confused

Indeed. I've seen the same thing, but with Harry and Christa. Do they all share the same house? Wink
