Before BBC YorksLincsHullHumber have another witch hunt looking for a mole - I'm not employed by the BBC. I just have a responsibility in public service broadcasting and its accountability.
The building is an odd shape for a purpose built broadcasting centre - probably because its not. Its a block of flats and some retail space at the bottom which Auntie has leased and then tried to fit a TV & Radio station into. Its way over the top as the yellow & orange nodules extend throughout the bulding not just the public spaces. One of the reasons given for the level of comfort is that it attracts people like the playright John Godber to sit & have a coffee...
and why do they lock the loos? Someone has to take you you in if you need a tinkle.
The purpose of this rant is that the public are constantly told that money is being spent on programming - preferably on programming with decent production standards- Look ULL does not come into that bracket.
So is the money saved by sacking one third of the workforce is going in to programmes or wasteful capital expenditure as seems to be the case in Queenie Towers?

I didn't see it tonight, I thought the result would be announced on Friday, but I've just watched again on the old real player.
Firstly I think showing a quick history of Look North is a bit off, I mean as if the current incarnation of the Hull programme has anything to do with Leeds Look North. That was a proper round-up of the regions news, this is a silly light hearted showbiz magazine. It's like a history of Trisha featuring an item about The Time The Place.
Secondly, here are the results...
Points East - 10%
East Coast Tonight - 12%
Lincs to the North - 18%
Look North - 60%
What a complete joke, they've just wasted about 5 weeks of air time going on about this name change. This really is a new low that the Hull programme has sunk to
The original poll months ago in the Levy Letter had more than 50% of people wanting to keep Look North so they should have just stopped it there, but of course that would have left a big hole in the programme's running order.

As I said a week ago, the 'consultation exercise' was merely to give people the impression that the BBC was listening to their concerns about the name. It listened, and it ignored.
Look North is one of the strongest brand names in the the North of England. The Hull management simply do not have it within their gift to tinker with something as important as this.
I was told today that the whole name change idea was vetoed by BBC bosses in Birmingham. It seems they want to 'keep their options open' on the future of the Hull version of Look North. ie: if the name changed and Hull asserted its own identity any further, it would be harder to scrap it and go back to the old pan regional Look North programme if the Hull half hour had a different name......

Its the first I have heard about cutting back or re-regionalising. BBC Hullyorkslincsnorfolk is the first of 2 possibly 3 new regions. They are supposed to be mucking about with bits of Essex and Cambridgeshire or somewhere for another region but Head of English regions is very keen on all this. His pet project is Hull, its the only region which did not have any budget cuts and actually got a couple of £K more to improve reporting. what that went on is anyones guess. Hull has its own Head of lcal & regional programming - why I don't know as it only makes Look North. There is a separate editor for the programme - who came from GMTV - perhaps thats why we've all this text voting & stuff. It will be free holidays and Keith Chegwin Banging on the door of some poor unfortunate victim in deepest Mablethorpe!
But wait there could be a new low story in the pipeline - the online site are looking for 'footballs most fantastic pie' how long before that ends up on our screens?

Top of the hour one's been jazzed up a bit hasn't it... haven't heard any others. Just as I was saying they still sound fresh, they sound even fresher.
Yes I've noticed that. I don't like it when they do this, the jazzed up versions never sound as good as the original. Look at it this way, if it was meant to be jazzed up they would have been commissioned like that in the first place.
There seems to be an annoying bong right at the end of the TOTH that wasn't there before, the newsreaders just talk over it.
Not that I was listening to this station of course, I'd just turned over for the travel news.

They don't like name changes do they? Anyone else remember a couple of years ago when Radio York rebranded itself as BBC North Yorkshire? So it's rumoured, the bosses of regional broadcasting weren't told about it, and demanded it be changed back when they found out. Oops!

Yes there has been plans for this for quite a while. No doubt, just like the where I live websites it'll be split "Leeds" and "Bradford and West Yorkshire". Personally I'm not in favour of the idea

The new-ish head of regional programming in Leeds is very keen to promote local radio. They are planning a Radio Bradford - which is in the business plan for this year.
